Raceland for Louise Marie Daviet, 93, who died Thursday at 9:15 p.m.

She is survived by several nephews and nieces.

Catholic Church, Vacherie, for Irene Brack, 61, a native and resident of 
Vacherie, who died Friday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felson and Agatha Hotard Brack; 
brother, Dave Brack; and a sister, Josephine Granier.

Church in Thibodaux for Marie Ann Chiasson, 84, a native and resident of 
Thibodaux, who died Friday at 10:12 a.m.

Interment was in St. John Cemetery, Thibodaux.

She was the sister of Claude Chiasson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Emma Chiasson; sisters, 
Maggie and Beatrice Chiasson; and brother, Willie Chiasson.

Funeral services were Tuesday for Clifton Peter Hebert, 65, a native of Raceland 
and a resident of Marrero, who died Saturday.

Interment was in Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale.

He was the husband of Rita Landry Hebert; father of Gary Hebert and Leddie 
Boudoin; and brother of Albert Hebert, Rita Autin and Lillian Folse.  He is also 
survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Southall Funeral Home Chapel, Napoleonville, for Michael Jacob, 25, a native of 
Napoleonville and a resident of Thibodaux, who died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Dismissal services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. 
Interment is in the New Mount Zion Cemetery.

He was the father of Mamie Jacob; son of Dorothy and Joseph Jacob Sr., 
Napoleonville; brother of Joseph Jacob Jr., Brenda Herbert, Dionne Cheavious, 
Janice and Cheryl Jacob, all of Napoleonville.

She was the wife of Harry Saucier; mother of Mary Lee Matherne and Dianne 
Dempster; and sister of Gladys Arabie, Rosie Brady, Louis, Owen, Welton and S.T. 
Theriot.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence and Chester Theriot.

grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Evelie Folse; and brother,

survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Omer "Black" Roger; a son, Eugene 
Roger; parents, Paul and Gergina Clement Mire; and a sister, Laura M. Roger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Annie Parker Landry; and a

S. T., C.J. Sr., Gordon Sr., and Ireton Brien.  She is also survived by 17 
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon L. Smith; and parents, 
Sylvester and Esma Thibodaux Brien.

Funeral services set for Nicholls professor.

Dr. Albert L. Diket

Nicholls State University history professor emeritus Dr. Albert L. Diket died 
Sunday after a lengthy illness.  He was 76.

Diket joined the Nicholls faculty in 1968.  He taught history there until his 
retirement in May 1982.  He was a native of Algiers and had lived in Thibodaux 
for the past 20 years.

Diket received degrees from Tulane, The University of Oregon and Louisiana State 
University.  He was the author of several books.

He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Sigma Iota and Phi Alpha Theta Honorary 
fraternities.  He was first president and co-founder of the New Orleans Jazz 
Club.

Diket was active with community theaters, acting in play at LaPetite Theatre in 
New Orleans, the Thibodaux Playhouse and the East Carolina University Players.

He is survived by his wife, Babette Gluckman Diket; daughter, Susan D. Clark; 
sons, Christopher, Jeffrey and Dr. Albert Diket Jr.; and sister Beryl Uhl.  He 
is also survived by two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert M. and Florence DeVoe Diket.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at St. Genevieve 
Catholic Church in Thibodaux.  Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 
the church.  Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of Arrangements.

Donations to the Thibodaux Friends of the Library or E.D. White Catholic High 
School are preferred.

Herman Washington

Black leader apparent suicide victim

The president of the Thibodaux chapter of the National Association for the 
Advancement of Colored People died today of an apparent self inflicted gunshot 
wound.

Herman Washington, 48, died upon arriving at Thibodaux General Hospital.  The 
Thibodaux Police Department received a call concerning Washington at 8:51 a.m.

Attendants from Acadian Ambulance Service found Washington at his residence with 
his heart still beating, police reported, He was pronounced dead upon arrival at 
the hospital.

Washington was found by his wife after not reporting to work today as a teacher 
at East Thibodaux Jr. High School, according to the police report. He was also a 
candidate for the Lafourche Parish Council from District 3 and ran 
unsuccessfully for an at-large seat on the Thibodaux City Council in 1986.

A native of Thibodaux, Washington was married to Theodora Washington and was the 
father of four children.  He was the son of Enola Washington, a former teacher 
and principal in the Lafourche Parish School System.

Washington was a member of Allen Chapel Methodist Church, St. Joseph Masonic 
Lodge No 15, Norman Jones CONSISTORY 32ND  degree Mason and Plater Temple 
Shriners.

Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday at St Joseph's Catholic 
Church in Galliano for Huey Long Cheramie, 58, a native of Golden Meadow and a 
resident of Galliano, who died Wednesday at 12:28 a.m.

Visitation is scheduled at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 6-9 p.m. today and 7 
a.m. until funeral time Thursday. Interment will be in the church mausoleum.

He was the husband of Gloria Mae Guidry Cheramie, son of Estella Pitre Cheramie, 
and the father of Huey J. Cheramie, Dedra C. Ashman and Dana C. Barrios. He was 
the brother of Chester J. Cheramie, Dorris C. Monaco, Connie C Bychurch and 
Myrtle C. Wiegel. He was also survived by four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bruger M. Cheramie Jr. and two sisters, 
Molly Cheramie and Ruth C. Lybarger.

in Vacherie for Francis J. "Frank" Hymel Sr., 77, a native and resident of 
Vacherie, who died Wednesday at 11:45 a.m.

at the church. Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today.

He was the husband of Valerie Webre Hymel; father of Gerard, Allen and Nolan 
Hymel of Vacherie and Francis Hymel Jr. of Lafayette; and brother of Mrs. Lionel 
(Elvina) Hotard, Hilda, Elise, Eula and Roland "Johnny" Hymel of Vacherie, and 
Jewels Hymel of St. James. He was also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Valsin and Aurelie Abadie Hymel; 
brother, George Hymel; and sisters, Celima and Dervina Hymel.
