Dolese, president of the Lafourche Parish School Board from 1948- 1974, died today at the age of 87 after a lengthy illness. Dolese was a dentist in the Thibodaux area for more than 50 years. During his tenure as president of the Lafourche Parish School Board all schools in Lafourche Parish were desegregated. It was once written about "Doc" Dolese that, "he acquired a reputation for getting things done, even when this sometimes meant getting together people who had no desire to come together. His soft spoke approach to people and problems has been credited for much of his leadership success. "The influence of Dr. Robert Dolese in the sphere of public education has not been limited to Lafourche Parish," Allen J. Tiilery, past president of She Louisiana School Boards once said. Dolese was also president of the Louisiana State School Board Association. He was a native of Labadieville and a graduate of Loyola University. He was a retired director of First Interstate Bank, a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, receipient of the Frances M. Durell Outstanding Citizen Award and charter member and second president of the Thibodaux Rotary Club. Dolese was married to the former Edrye Simmons Dolese of Napoieonville. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Saturday in the church. Schwarzenbach, founder of the Thibodaux chapter of the American Association for Retired Persons, died Sunday of natural causes. He was 86. Schwarzenbach was known in the area for his volunteer activities. He served as board chairman for the Lafourche Council on Aging and continued his services to the AARP as area coordinator of the tax aide program. He was an instructor for the Fifty-Five Alive defensive driving program and was a Master-Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member. He was also a lector at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux. Schwarzenbach and his wife, Olga, were enthusiastic square and round dancers and, for many years, presented a dance exhibition at the Morgan City Shrimp Festival. He was also an active Senior Olympian, winning 11 gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the Louisiana games. He competed in the national games in St. Louis in 1989 and was invited to the Syracuse games in 1991. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Genevieve Catholic Church.
