A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Mathews for Robichaux, 77, a native and resident of Raceland, who died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. After graduating from Raceland High School in 1932, Robichaux entered Louisiana State University, from which he graduated in 1936. He entered the LSU Medical School and graduated 10th in the 1940 class. Rohichaux married Adelea Landry after his first year of medical school, and he returned to Raceland in 1944 after serving residency at Charity Hospital of New Orleans. St. Anne's General Hospital began in 1945 in the building next to Robichaux's office, which he equipped with nine beds and an x-ray and sterilizer laboratory. Robichaux's brother Richard joined him in practice and in 1950 the two sponsored the construction of 22-bed hospital. In 1956 Philip Robichaux was elected coroner, a post he held for 28 years while maintaining his practice. In 1962 Robichaux helped engineer the creation of Hospital Service District No. 2 and the passage of a bond election to build a larger hospital. Robichaux served as chairman of the district until 1986. Robichaux also enjoyed perfect attendance in his 20 years of membership in the Raceland Lions Club, and Robichaux also served as chairman of the parish Board of Health and the Health Division of the parish's Civil Defense. Robichaux was also a member of the parish Medical Society, the Lafourche Valley Medical Society, the Third District Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. In 1965 Robichaux received the Robins Award from the Louisiana State Medical Society for Outstanding Community Service. He was also the father of Dr. Philip Alcide Robichaux Jr., Ronald James Robichaux, Dr. Michael Richard Robichaux and Anna Helen Shoemaker; brother of Dr. Richard Robichaux and Alice Jones.
