Broussard, a sugarcane farmer since the age of 19, managed plantations in Lafourche, Terrebonne and St. James Parishes for Southdown Sugars. He managed Hollywood Plantation in Houma and Abby Plantation and Greenwood Plantation in Thibodaux. He was involved in the sugar industry for more than 50 years, acting as farmer, overseer, manager, consultant and contributor. He received the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service's Sugarcane Field Day Award. Broussard, who participated in various religious and civic functions, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past Grand Knight. He was the husband of Virgie Rome Broussard; father of Elmo Jr., George W., Glenn G., and Blair M. Broussard, Kathleen Daigle, Virgie M. Broussard and Marilyn Templet.
