He was 47. Bergeron designed numerous projects for the parish including street paving and drainage jobs. He was the parish's solid waste consultant. He designed a sewerage treatment plant for the city of Thibodaux which won federal funding because of its innovations. "Whatever we needed him to do, he'd do, whether he was paid for it or not," said Mary Flowers, a parish council member from Thibodaux. "When I first ran for office (in 1987), I didn't know David at all. Over the past few years, I got to know him well. He was such a good person, honest, fair. He was always interested in what was right. I learned a lot from him," Flowers said. Bergeron, who was vice president of George Bergeron Jr. and Son, a firm founded by his father, was city engineer from 1982 until 1990. His design of the city's new sewerage treatment plant, which went into service last year, brought funding from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. “It was a very new and interesting type of sewerage treatment,” City Clerk Tommy Eschete said. The plant uses the natural purification processes in an area swamp to help treat the city's sewerage. Bergeron was also a part-time professor at Nicholls State University. He was a member of several state and national engineering and surveying organizations. His Funeral was scheduled for 1 p.m. today at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux.
