SMITH "SMITTY" KNOBLOCH, a Thibodaux attorney who made an unsuccessful bid for Lafourche Parish District Attorney in 1990, died of cancer at 6:30 p.m. Monday. He was 41. Knobloch came from a family of lawyers. His father was a judge. Both of his grandfathers were lawyers. "I don't ever remember not wanting to be a lawyer," he said in a 1990 interview with the Daily Comet. He had a reputation as being a good one. "If I had gotten in trouble with the law, I would want him as my lawyer," said retired Judge Wollen Falgout, another unsuccessful candidate in the 1990 election. "He was my opponent, but he was my friend,” Falgout said. “If he believed in something, he wouldn’t back off.” "I enjoyed having him, in my court. He was always prepared. He was very persistent." Knobloch was a native and resident of Thibodaux. He graduated from E.D. White Catholic High School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Nicholls State University before graduating from the Louisiana State University Law School in 1976. He was an avid musician. He started playing piano when he was 7 and played in a rock ‘n’ roll band while he was in high school and college. In his later life, he limited his public performances to playing piano at St. Genevieve Catholic Church on Sundays. Funeral arrangements are pending at Thibodaux Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Seibold Knobloch; daughters, Nicole and Katherine Knobloch; parents, retired Judge Bernard L.
