Constable dies Thursday at 68 Livingston "Shine" Doucet Tenth Ward Constable Livingston "Shine" Doucet died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday after a brief illness. Doucet suffered from cancer and had undergone treatments. He died at an area hospital. He was 68. He served as constable in Ward 10 of Lafourche Parish for 14 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, past commander of the American Legion Post 315 and a member of the VFW Post of Larose. Leslie Badeaux, who worked his way from clerk to president of Edward Badeaux Co. in Thibodaux, died Monday night from complications following surgery. A Funeral for Badeaux, 83, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Co- cathedral in Thibodaux. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until Funeral time Thursday at St. Joseph Co-cathedral. Badeaux was active in church and civic affairs. He served as an altar boy, reader and lector at St. Joseph's. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1114 and a past grand knight. He was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul and Holy Name societies. Badeaux was a member of Thibodaux Fire Co. No. 1 and was grand marshal of the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department's parade in 1970. "He was always willing to help people," said Teresa Mae Fernandez, Badeaux's sister. "We just feel like he walked right through the pearly gates." Badeaux, a Thibodaux native, went to work in his father's store, Badeaux Clothing, on Jackson Street, shortly after graduating from Thibodaux College in the late 1920s. "He didn't like it too much," Fernandez said. He soon quit the clothing store and accepted a job with Edward Badeaux and Co., which his aunt Anna Badeaux owned. He became Manager of the company before he was 21. "He applied himself," Fernandez said. "He worked his way up. It was just that it was a challenge to him." Badeaux saw Edward Badeaux Co. prosper, celebrating 100 years in business in 1990. The company distributes candy, cigarettes and cigars to area outlets. Badeaux also was a partner in Star Cigarette Co., a vending machine company, and vice president of National Beverage Co. in Thibodaux. He started serving on the board of Citizens Bank and Trust in 1969 and continued to serve on the board of First Interstate Bank of South Louisiana when Citizens merged with Lafourche National Bank in 1987. He retired from the bank board in December. He is survived by his wife, Viola Tabor Badeaux of Thibodaux; brother, J. Alvin Badeaux of Thibodaux; and sisters, Vivian Bergeron of Baton Rouge and Teresa Mae Fernandez of Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Vivian Knobloch Badeaux; sisters, Marie Adeline Badeaux and Margaret Hornsby; and brothers, Charles Badeaux Jr. and Monsignor A.
