A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at Thibodaux Funeral Home, and 8:30 a.m. until funeral time at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Barbera was a native of Napoleonville and a resident of Thibodaux since 1963. He was the husband of Marie Tramonte Barbera for 52 years. He was the father of Sam Barbera Jr., Judge Jerome J. Barbera III, Jay L. Barbera, David J. Barbera, Chistine B. Harvey and Danny P. Barbera; and the brother of Joseph Barbera Jr. of Thibodaux, and Jerome A. Barbera, of Napoleonville. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Barbera Jr. and Frances Locascio Barbera. Barbera was a 1940 graduate of Louisiana State University and a veteran of World War II, serving as a U.S. Army infantry captain. Barbera was a Chevrolet dealer in Napoleonville for 37 years and was a founder and co-owner of Barbera Bros. Chevrolet Inc. of Thibodaux, with his brother, Joseph Barbera. "I had a lot of respect for him because he was in business for a long period of time. We had respect for each other. My dealings with him were always favorable. He has an outstanding family," said Ferd Block, owner of Peacock's Jewelery and Block's Furniture in Thibodaux. "I came to Thibodaux shortly before he did so we've been very, very good business friends for long period of time." Barbera was also a former member of the Napoleonville Lions Club, The Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, and the board of directors of Assumption Bank and Trust Co., Napoleonville. He was also a member of the Bayou Industrial Group, St. Genevieve Catholic Church Ushers' Society and grand marshal of the Thibodaux Fireman's Fair in 1977. ===================== DAVID LANTIA A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Hilary of Poiters Catholic Church in Mathews for 1st Sgt. retired David "Sarge" Lantia, 50, a native of Lake Charles and resident of Raceland, who died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4. She returned to teaching at Bayou Boeuf in 1944 and stayed there until her retirement in 1973. Borne became principal of Bayou Boeuf in 1958. She graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School in 1930. Borne attended the New Orleans Normal School and attained a life certificate to teach all subjects through junior high. In 1956, Borne took sabbatical leave to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where she also earned a masters degree in 1971. In 1981, she was appointed to the Lafourche Parish School Board for 11 months to fill the unexpired term of Leon Borne Jr., her son, who left the School Board after his election to the House of Representatives. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Lafourche Parish Council on Aging and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. Borne is credited with helping teach veterans and adults. She taught Catechism, was an organist and worked with the choir at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church. In 1972 Borne received two awards, the Regina Matrum Award "Queen of Mothers" from the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Jaycees Distiguished Service Award.
