She was one of the founding members of CODOFIL of Louisiana and one of the oldest baptized parishioners of St. Joseph Church. She was named one of the 10 Most Honored Citizens of Marksville from 1900 to 1950 and was a member of the St. Joseph Church Choir. "Dub" Gibbens. 85, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Thibodaux died Monday. Gibbens was born in Baton Rouge on Dec. 1, 1909, the son of Richard Thomas and Mary Elder Gibbens. He graduated from Thibodaux College and moved to Baton Rouge, where he attended Louisiana State University and obtained a bachelors degree. Gibbens returned to Thibodaux and married Mildred H. Hebert in 1932. He was a Buick and General Motors truck dealer for 51 years, until his retirement in 1983 He served as one of the Founders of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association and a director for many years. Locally, he served as president of the local dealer's association and past area director for the state association. He was honored with the Dealer of the Year Award. He was a member of the gas rationing board in World War II. His civic duties includes past President of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce and Past President of the Thibodaux Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. Gibbens was past Grand Marshall of the Volunteer Department in 1955 and Honorary member of Fire Company No. 1 for 34 years. In 1979, Gibbens was chosen to receive the Durel Award for Outstanding Citizenship. He was a Director of Lafourche National Bank for 19 years, and past Director and Secretary of the St. Joseph Hospital Board for 6 years. In 1984, Gibbens was honored by E.D. White Catholic High School with an induction into the school's Hall of Fame in 1984. A member of both LSU and Nicholls State Century Clubs, Gibbens also served as treasurer of the Thibodaux College Cardinal Club for 26 years. He was also treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for 30 years, and Director on the board at Manresa for 10 years.
