Barrios, 58, who served the past 13 years as a bailiff in Lafourche Parish courts, died Sunday from complications following heart surgery. Barrios had a heart attack while in court in Galliano July 18. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Co-cathedral in Thibodaux. Visitation is scheduled from 5-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until Funeral time Wednesday at Landry's Funeral Home in Thibodaux. Burial is in the church Cemetery. "As far as I'm concerned, he was the best bailiff I could ever want," said Judge Randy Parro of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal, who served 11 years on the bench with Barrios as his bailiff in state district court in Thibodaux. Barrios, a native and resident of Thibodaux, joined Parro's court when Parro was first elected a state judge in 1982. They were high school friends who maintained ties after graduation. "He was a bright guy," Parro said. "He took charge of things. He did everything by the book." Barrios held a variety of jobs prior to becoming a bailiff. He was a drummer with the "Rhythm Kings," a band he joined after high school. He served four years active duty with the Air Force as a jet mechanic before his discharge in 1962. He also held jobs with Post News and Keystone Equipment Co., an oil field supply firm. His first job was at the Grand Theatre in Thibodaux, which was torn down last month. He worked as a ticket-taker there when he was 8. His father, Louis Barrios, was the theater's first projectionist. Parro said Barrios' military experience helped in court. Barrios would assign places to jurors and always keep them in position so that when they walked into court, they were in the right place at the right time. "He always took care of their needs," Parro said. "He anticipated problems and handled them. He was the best." He is survived by his wife, Brenda Albert Barrios; son, James Barrios; daughter, Garnet Barrios Tabor; and two grandchildren. Burial was in the church Cemetery. She was the mother of Lee J. Plaisance, Wilma Guidry, Nora Ledet and Geraldine Chiasson. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Plaisance: parents, Pierre and Camelia Duet Breaux; a son, Roland P. Plaisance; three brothers, Ecton, Delton and Severin Breaux; five sisters, Jeanne B. Doucos, Eucaris B. Adams, Delia B. Fremin, Bella B. Hughes and Severine Breaux; and two great-grandchildren. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary and a member of the Ladies Altar Society.
