Larry Jones

A funeral took place at 9 p.m. Sunday at Moses Baptist Church for Larry John 
Jones, 45, a native and resident of Thibodaux, who died Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Dismissal took place at 10 a.m. today, and burial was in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Lloyd Jones Jr. officiated.

He was the husband of Martha B. Jones of Thibodaux; stepfather of Lance Jones and 
Dionne Sargent, both of Thibodaux; brother of Jeffery Duncan, Donald, Ronald and 
Patricia A. Cooper and Mary Lois Johnson, all of Thibodaux, Edward Turner of 
California and Joseph C. Jones of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earline Cooper Duncan and Anthony 
Jones.

He was a member of Moses Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was a 
general laborer and a U.S. Army veteran. His hobbies included reading.

Andrew Landry

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace 
Catholic Church in Vacherie for Andrew Landry, 79, a 30 year resident of Vacherie, 
who died Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Thibodaux Hospital and Health Centers.

His body was donated to the Tulane Medical Center.

The Rev. Clarence Waguespack will officiate.

He was the husband of Mildred O. Landry; father of Douglas Landry of Lafayette, 
Michael Landry of Thibodaux, Jackie Rodrigue of Chackbay and Barabar Dodd of 
Bakersfield, Calif.; brother of Alberta Bordanero and Bridget Terracino, both of 
Louisiana, and Armand Landry of Texas. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 
24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leontine and Edgar Landry; a son, Larry 
Landry; a brother, Sidney Landry of Chackbay and Paul and Ivy Landry, both of New 
Orleans.

Jimmie Wilson

A religious service is scheduled for 8 p.m. today at Moses Baptist Church for 
Jimmie Wilson, 84, a native of Cornor and resident of Thibodaux, who died at 7 
a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at his residence.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Dismissal will be 11 a.m. Saturday, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was the husband of Hilda W Wilson; father of Jerry, Jimmie, Thelma and Louise 
Wilson and Rose Truxillo, all of Thibodaux; stepfather of Elsie Bell, Joyce Adams, 
Ethel Hills and Shirley Allen, all of Thibodaux. Gertrude Burdis of Labadieville, 
Hilda Perkins and Dorothy Israel, both of Milwaukee, Claudell Williams of Virginia 
and LeeAnna Thomas and Philip Wilson, both of New Orleans; brother of Nathalie W. 
Jones and Lawrence and Harry Minor, all of Cornor, Roseanna Stevens of New Orleans 
and Johnas Minor of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kate and James Wilson; a sister, Kate

Catholic Church in Houma for Melina Thibodaux Bonvillain Vice, 83, a native of 
Bayou Dularge Route and resident of Houma, who died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 
2.

Visitation will be 6 to 10 p.m. today at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma and 11 
a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the mother of J.D. and Frank Bonvillain, Ruth Deroche, Estelle Bergeron 
and Rosalind Delaune, all of Houma, and Daniel Bonvillain of Ventress; sister of 
Robert Thibodaux of Galliano, Bunk Thibodaux of Patterson, Agatha Falgout and 
Bessie Cheminto, both of Thibodaux and Gertrude Celino and Yvonne Chappuis, both of 
Harahan. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Bonvillain; second 
husband, Harry Vice; parents, Narcisse and Eva Chatagnier Thibodaux; three 
brothers, Enest, Simon and Albert Thibodaux; and four sisters, Nolia Use, Anita 
Trosclair, Theresa Thibodaux and Bernice Babin.

She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary.

Jr., 28, a native of Golden Meadow and resident of Cut Off, who died at 2:37 p.m. 
Thursday, Aug. 3.

in Choctaw for Florence Marie Tabor Hebert, 83, a native of Choctaw and resident 
of Thibodaux, who died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.

Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

She was the mother of Sam Sr., Thelma and Norris Hebert, Rosemary Pitre, Virgie 
and Susan Tabor, Margie Delatte and Cecilia and Barbara Benoit; sister of Hudson 
Tabor, Clone Delatte and Irene Ordoyne. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren 
and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elie Hebert; parents, Leo and Zolide 
Benoit Tabor; and a daughter, Velma Hebert.

He was the husband of Sidonia Legendre Vicknair; father of Stella Boudreaux of

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxie and Virginia Jewels Vicknair; three

of Labadieville, who died Friday, Aug. 4.

She was the mother of Milton, Elton, Percy and Leroy Morvant, Irene Thibodeaux 
and Eunice Himel; sister of Agnes Diaz. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 
52 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Morvant; parents, Theodule and 
Lawrentia Navarre Diaz; two brothers, Wallace and Louis Diaz; and three sisters, 
Marie Duet, Adele Clement and Emelia Heriard.

Catholic Church in Chacahoula for Timothy Paul Dolese, 32, a native of 
Labadieville and resident of Chacahoula, who died at 10:18 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at the church.

Burial will be in St. Philomena Cemetery in Labadieville.

He was the son of Sylvia Adams Dolese; father of Glen and Jamie Dolese; brother

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Dolese, DDS; and a daughter, 
Raven Dolese.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of 
Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath for Iry Joseph Melancon, 74, a resident of Erath, 
who died at 11:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Abbeville General Hospital.

Visitation will be 7 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at the church.

Interment will be in the church mausoleum.

He was the husband of Doris Mae Flowers Melancon of Erath; father of Marilyn 
Trahan, Mary Pat Huval and Celina Bergeron, all of Erath; brother of Lorraine 
Trepagnier of LaPlace, Dot Jennings and Hubert Melancon, both of Thibodaux, and 
Ivy Melancon of Gheens. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two step-
grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson J. and Elma Ledet Melancon Sr.; 
and a brother, Nelson J. Melancon Jr.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He 
was a member of the Derouen-Moss American Legion Post 279 of Erath, which will 
conduct full graveside military services. He was a retired Henry Gas Processing 
Plant electrician, working from 1946 to 1981. He was also owner of Pappy's Mini-
Mart Texaco in Erath and also owned and operated Melancon's Mobile Home Park for 
the past 30 years.

Church in Napoleonville for Winnifred "Tee" Landry Barbier, 66, a native and 
resident of Napoleonville, who died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was the wife of Francis "Bill" Barbier; daughter of Inez Martin Landry; 
mother of Susan Barbier.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Landry Sr.; and a brother, 
Wallace Landry Jr.

survived by a grandchild.

Thibodaux, who died Aug. 9.

He was the former husband of Agnes Brown Randall; father of Frank, Joseph, 
Raymond, Chris and Lisa Brown, Cindy Bridges and Angel Santiago; brother of 
Larry, Landry and Edwina Broan and Audrey May Williams. He is also survived by 
30 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosaline and Ernest Brown; and a 
sister, Rosemary Soco.

He was a seaman for many years.

Larose for Earline Marie Cook, 71, a native of Galliano and a resident of Larose, 
who died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 9.

She was the mother of Mary Benson, Laura Kraemer and Lela Cheramie; and sister of 
Johnny Autin, Jan Anselmi, Mavis Anselmi and Lou Ann Dupre. She is also survived 
by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin Cook; parents Ernest and Rosina 
Autin and daughter Laura Lee Cook.

grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sylvia Esponge and Felicien Vizier.

He was a veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Grand Isle Shipyard.

Burial will be at Halfway Cemetery in Gray.

He was the husband of Mary Lee Ledet Vedros; the father of Danny and Darren 
Vedros, Cathy Gros, Connie Plaisance and Donna Eschete; the brother of Lester 
and Jerry Vedros, Geraldine Adams and Paulette Candies. He was the grandfather 
of 10 and the great-grandfather of one.

He was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Bertha Vedros.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of American Legion Post 
83 in Lock-port and a member of the V.F.W. Post 3665 of Raceland. He was an 
usher for Holy Savior Church, a member of the Lockport Knights of Columbus 
Council No. 3054, the Holy Name Society of Holy Savior Parish, the Lockport 
Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of the Holy Savior Parish Council.

Monsignor Earl Larose
Monsignor Larose dies of heart attack

Monsignor Earl J. Larose, 54, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene parish in Metairie 
for the past 10 years, died of a heart attack Sunday, Aug. 27 while on a visit 
to France.

Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of his body in New Orleans.

Larose was a native of Thibodaux and attended St. Joseph Seminary College in 
St. Benedict and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. As a seminarian he did 
mission work in Guatemala during the summer months and was ordained for the 
Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1968.

He served as a parochial vicar at Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Maurice in 
New Orleans before receiving his first pastorate in 1977 at Our Lady of 
Perpetual Help in Kenner, He remained there until 1985, when he was assigned 
pastor of St. Mary Magdalene.

A former chaplain in the National Guard, Larose also served as a chaplain to 
the Boy Scouts and to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Madonna. He 
was twice elected to the Priests' Council of the archdiocese and was a member of 
the Archdiocesan Clergy Personnel Committee. He was named a monsignor in 1988.

Larose was the son of Earl and Marcelle Larose of Thibodaux, the brother of 
Robert Larose of Thibodaux, Andrew Larose of New Orleans and Lorraine Larose of 
Metairie.

native and resident of Paincourtville, who died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday Aug. 27,

Gary Powell dies from hemorrhage

Gary Dale Powell, 40, a music teacher at H.L. Bourgeois High and Evergreen 
Junior High schools and a Daily Comet correspondent, died from a hemorrhage at 
5:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31.

Funeral services are scheduled at 1 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma. 
Visitation is from 8 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home. Burial is in 
Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Powell, a native of Waxahacie, Texas and resident of Houma, had just started his 
job as vocal music director at H.L. Bourgeois and Evergreen. Prior to this 
school year, he worked for five years as a special education teacher for the 
Assumption Parish school system. He also worked for Terrebonne Parish schools a 
total of 18 years.

Powell worked as a freelance writer for the Daily Comet for the past five years 
covering Assumption Parish government.

He was the husband of Beth Martin Powell; father of Kristen Powell of Houma and 
Brittany Powell of Harvey; son of Eldon L. and Robbie Jo Hodge Powell of Morgan 
City; and brother of Kimberly Boudreaux of Bayou Vista.

He was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Houma.
