"Kelly" Dupont Jr., 37, who died at 8:02 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport. He was the son of Marion and Irene Dupont of Thibodaux; brother of Albert P. "Trax" Dupont II of Germantown, Md., Gail Dupont of Breaux Bridge, Regina Naquin of Schriever, Cynthia Landry of Raceland, Sandra Dupont of Baton Rouge and SSG Neil Dupont of Gulfport; grandson of Amelia Dorr of Crowley and Mary Santillian of Merced, Calif. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Albert P. Dupont of Scott and Ross Figueroa of Los Banos, Calif. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a real estate broker and a former member of the West Gulf Coast Association of Realtors where he served in many capacities, including director and treasurer. He was named 1993 Realtor of the Year, and in 1992 received the Presidential Award. As a member of the State Association of Realtors, he served on the board of directors and chaired the RPAC Committee for two years. He was also on the board of directors of the Society for Retarded Citizens and the Guld Coast Arts Council. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Lam, 48, who died Oct. 13 of cancer at Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong. He was the husband of Sandra Reed of Lafayette; father of Katherine K. Lam of San Francisco; stepfather of Deborah Abbott of Austin, Texas, and Donna Toutin of Seattle; son of Mo Ching Tarn of Hong Kong; brother of Belisa L.D. Lam Sham of Los Angeles and Shirley S.L. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Nicholls State University in 1973 and a master of public health degree in environmental health science from Tulane University in 1974. He also studied for a doctorate in environmental engineering at Tulane. He served as water consultant for the City of Thibodaux from 1979 to 1983 and conducted training sessions for employees at the Thibodaux water plant for certification in water plant operations. While a student at Nicholls, he lived with Ethel Knobloch and the late Albert "T- Put" Knobloch of Thibodaux. Joseph, died Saturday, Oct. 14 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. Joseph, 73, a native of Palmetto, served as a member of Nicholls' faculty from 1963 to 1986, including 17 years as dean of the College of Education. He was also an Alcee Fortier Honorary Professor, the highest academic title at Nicholls. Former colleagues of Joseph said he was a stimulating leader in the field of educating teachers. Dr. Jo Ann Cangemi, professor of education, described Joseph as a man of vision. "He brought a closer working relationship with the public school systems surrounding Nicholls. He helped form the Superintendents' Association, which still meets monthly here on the Nicholls campus. This relationship has been one of our strengths in the College of Education," she said. Dr. Lacy Marcotte is a retired Nicholls Education professor who served as head of one of the college's department during Joseph's administration. "He was a very dynamic and imanginative person," Marcotte said. "He was always on the cutting edge, taking risks when necessary. In fact, it was under Joseph's leadership that the College of Education earned the first national accreditation on campus - the first of any degree program at Nicholls." Joseph was survived by his wife, Cathy Evans Joseph of Baton Rouge; two daughters; one son; two sisters; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Calecas, 66, of Thibodaux, died Sunday after he lost consciousness while driving and hit a utility pole on St. Mary Street in Thibodaux. Calecas was travelling east on St. Mary Street at 9:55 a.m. Sunday when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and swerved to the right, Thibodaux Police Chief Keith Estevens said. He overcorrected to the left and ran into a pole in between West Main Pizza and Church's Fried Chicken. When officers reached him he appeared to be unconscious and was taken to Thibodaux Hospital and Health Centers, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m. "There was no apparent injury to Dr. Calecas and no other vehicle involved," Estevens said. "He'll be sadly missed by the community though he was a very good doctor." An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death, Estevens said. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux for Calecas, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Thibodaux.
