Marion Dupont Jr.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's 
Catholic Church in Gulf-port, Miss., for Marion K. "Kelly" Dupont Jr., 37, who 
died at 8:02 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.

He was the son of Marion and Irene Dupont of Thibodaux; brother of Albert P. 
"Trax" Dupont II of Germantown, Md., Gail Dupont of Breaux Bridge, Regina Naquin 
of Schriever, Cynthia Landry of Raceland, Sandra Dupont of Baton Rouge and SSG 
Neil Dupont of Gulfport; grandson of Amelia Dorr of Crowley and Mary Santillian 
of Merced, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Albert P. Dupont of Scott and 
Ross Figueroa of Los Banos, Calif.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a real estate broker and a former member of the 
West Gulf Coast Association of Realtors where he served in many capacities, 
including director and treasurer.

He was named 1993 Realtor of the Year, and in 1992 received the Presidential 
Award. As a member of the State Association of Realtors, he served on the board 
of directors and chaired the RPAC Committee for two years.

He was also on the board of directors of the Society for Retarded Citizens and 
the Guld Coast Arts Council. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Donations may be sent to the Society for Retarded Citizens or the Gulf Coast 
Arts Council.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 8 p.m. today at St. Gertrude 
Catholic Church in Des Allemands for Irene Marie Loupe, 38, a native of Raceland 
and resident of Des Allemands, who died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.

Visitation will be 6 to 10:30 p.m. today and 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Dismissal will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, and burial will be in the church Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Betty Martin Loupe; sister of Claude, Adam and Al Loupe, 
Arlene Hall, Claudia Cortez and Theresa Lynne Pickett.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence J. Loupe.

Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma for Adley Paul Landry, 88, a native of Chackbay 
and resident of Houma, who died at 8:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2.

Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and 9 a.m. to 
funeral time Thursday at the church.

Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery.

He was the father of Arthur Paul Landry and Claribel L. Fontenot, both of Baton 
Rouge, Mary Ellen, Adley Paul Jr. and Richard F. Landry and Joycelyn L. Perry, 
all of Houma; brother of Agnes Martinez of Houma and Lillian Sevin of Luling. He is 
also survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Elizabeth Richard Landry; parents, 
Albert Paul and Ida Marie Kraemer Landry; a grandchild, Steve Fontenot; and a 
sister, Adeline Sotile.

He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette and a retired farmer. He was a member of 
Farm Bureau, Cattleman's Association, the Usher Society of St, Bernadette and 
Cultivated Camellias and Gladiolus. He was a former member of the Terrebonne Parish 
Police Jury.

of Poitiers Catholic Church in Mathews for Charles "Charlie" Thibodeaux Sr., 76, a 
native and resident of Mathews, who died at 4:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2.

Visitation will be 6 to 10 p.m. today at Falgout Funeral Home of Raceland and 8 
a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at the church.

Interment will be in Holy Savior Mausoleum in Lockport.

He was the husband of Mildred Plaisance Thibodeaux; father of Charles Jr., Steve 
and Emory Thibodeaux, Kathleen LeBlanc, Charlene Dufrene and Margie Landry; 
brother of Louis Jr., Leroy and Dorothy Thibodeaux, Loretta Boquet, Elvina and 
Marie Louis Keonig, Doris Oddo and Patricia Billiot. He is also survived by 15 
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aneda Detillier and Louis Thibodeaux Sr.; 
and a brother, Urie Thibodeaux.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 3665 of 
Raceland.

resident of Paincourtville, who died Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Landry's Funeral Home in Napoleonville.

She was the wife of John Cedotal; mother of Gary, Wayne, Michael and Gerard 
Cedotal; sister of Ernest and Ridley Hebert, Jeanne Talbot, Marie Millet and 
Shirley Naquin. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Irma Blanchard Hebert; a son, 
Donald Cedotal; two brothers, Pete and Robert Hebert; and four sisters, May 
Aucoin, Levie Cavalier, Pearl Simoneaux and Mildred LeBlanc.

A funeral took place at noon Saturday at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral. Home in New 
Orleans f6r Lester Joseph France, 79, a native of Raceland and resident of Kenner, 
who died Wednesday, Oct. 4 at his home.

Burial was in Garden of Memories.

He was the husband of Rita Marie Tardo France; father of Donald France and Kathy 
Fernandez; brother of Joseph, Herbert, Herman and Thomas J. France, Hazel Baer, 
Tessie Gautreaux, Shirley Marshall and Louella Labit. He is also survived by two 
grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was a retired postal worker and a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He 
received the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal and was a member of VFW Post 3267.

Church in Luling for Vergie Gregory Harrell, 78, a native of El Dorado, Ark., and

She was the wife of Charles S. Harrell; mother of Shelby T. Harrell of Des

Lafayette; sister of George Virgil Gregory. She is also survived by eight 
grandchildren, one step-grandchild, 14 great-grandchildren and two step-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter T. and Nora Honeycutt Gregory; 
and two sisters, Aylene Graves and Nancy DeHart.

73, a native of Raceland and resident of Houma, who died at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 
6.

He was the husband of Jeanne Martin Fournier of Lafourche Parish; father of 
Gilbert L. Fournier of Virginia Beach, Va., David J. Fournier of Thibodaux and 
Carol Fournier Guidry of Bourg; brother of Earl Fournier of Bayou Blue and 
Mervin Fournier of Raceland. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four 
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Gertrude Roussell Fournier.

He was a parishioner of St. Louis Church, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a 
member of American Legion Post 0349 and the VFW Freddie John Falgout Post. He 
was a retired, self-employed welder inspector.

Interment was in the church mausoleum.

He was the husband of Hilda Arcement Fournier of Jefferson; father of Lilly F. 
Cedatol of Metairie; brother of Gene and Peter Fournier and Marie Pitre, all of 
Raceland, and Glen Fournier of Houma. He is also survived by two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecile Rodrigue and Etienne Fournier 
Sr.; and six brothers, John, Lester, Etienne Jr., Herbert, Alden and Robert 
Fournier.

He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Jefferson, a U.S. Army 
veteran of World War II and a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3923.

and one great-great-great-nephew.

Mary Lee Arcneaux.

and Louisa Aupied Gaubert; a son, Francis Leonard; a granddaughter, Gina Gros; a

Rita Gaubert.

Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Calice A. Perez, 73, a native of 
Kraemer and resident of New Iberia, who died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12.

Visitation will be until 10 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at 
Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia.

A military graveside service will take place, conducted by the Fort Polk Honor 
Guard Unit, at Rosehill Cemetery.

The Rev. A.J. Boumans will officiate.

He was the father of David P. and James Clayton Perez and Tammy P. Breaux, all of 
New Iberia; brother of Robert and Anatole "Nat" Perez and Gretal Brock, all of 
Thibodaux, Leroy Perez Sr. of New Iberia, Mary Anna Hanna of St. Amant and Pearl 
Thibodaux of Morgan City. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Dugan Perez; parents, Benjamin 
and Mary Anna Cortez Perez; a brother, Rodney Perez; and a sister, Rita 
Thibodaux.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, the Korean War 
and the Vietnam War. He retired with 23 years of service. He was a member of the 
American Legion and the V.F.W.

A memorial service took place Saturday at First Baptist Church in New Orleans for 
Stephen W. Lam, 48, who died Oct. 13 of cancer at Queen Mary Hospital in Hong 
Kong.

He was the husband of Sandra Reed of Lafayette; father of Katherine K. Lam of San 
Francisco; stepfather of Deborah Abbott of Austin, Texas, and Donna Toutin of 
Seattle; son of Mo Ching Tarn of Hong Kong; brother of Belisa L.D. Lam Sham of 
Los Angeles and Shirley S.L. Lam Lo of Hong Kong.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Nicholls 
State University in 1973 and a master of public health degree in environmental 
health science from Tulane University in 1974. He also studied for a doctorate in 
environmental engineering at Tulane.

He served as water consultant for the City of Thibodaux from 1979 to 1983 and 
conducted training sessions for employees at the Thibodaux water plant for 
certification in water plant operations.

While a student at Nicholls, he lived with Ethel Knobloch and the late Albert "T-
Put" Knobloch of Thibodaux.

Norman Every Sr., 64, a native and resident of Thibodaux, who died at 9:42 a.m. 
Saturday, Oct. 14.

He was the husband of Ophelia Reade Every; father of Gary, Kenneth Sr., Norman

Nicholls Dean Joseph dies
D.G.Joseph

A longtime dean of Nicholls State University College of Education, Dr. D.G. 
Joseph, died Saturday, Oct. 14 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center.

Joseph, 73, a native of Palmetto, served as a member of Nicholls' faculty from 
1963 to 1986, including 17 years as dean of the College of Education. He was 
also an Alcee Fortier Honorary Professor, the highest academic title at 
Nicholls.

Former colleagues of Joseph said he was a stimulating leader in the field of 
educating teachers.

Dr. Jo Ann Cangemi, professor of education, described Joseph as a man of vision.

"He brought a closer working relationship with the public school systems 
surrounding Nicholls. He helped form the Superintendents' Association, which 
still meets monthly here on the Nicholls campus. This relationship has been one 
of our strengths in the College of Education," she said.

Dr. Lacy Marcotte is a retired Nicholls Education professor who served as head 
of one of the college's department during Joseph's administration.

"He was a very dynamic and imanginative person," Marcotte said. "He was always 
on the cutting edge, taking risks when necessary. In fact, it was under 
Joseph's leadership that the College of Education earned the first national 
accreditation on campus - the first of any degree program at Nicholls."

Joseph was survived by his wife, Cathy Evans Joseph of Baton Rouge; two 
daughters; one son; two sisters; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Mausoleum in Cut Off.

Sister Agnes was in the 65th year of her religious profession and was formerly

Abbeville and New Orleans. She also served as a nursing assistant in the newborn 
nurseries of St. Joseph Hospital and Thibodaux General Hospital for more than 20 
years.

Nicholls prof dies Tuesday

Retired Nicholls State University professor Raoul Joseph "Ralph" Morel III, 64, 
died Tuesday at Thibodaux General Hospital and Health Center of an apparent 
heart attack.

Morel retired from Nicholls in August 1991, after 17 years of service. He worked 
19 years prior for the State Department of Education. He was a native of Convent 
and a resident of Baton Rouge.

Visitation is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until funeral time 
Friday at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Rabenhorst East 
Chapel in Baton Rouge. The Rev. Charles Perkins will officiate. Interment is in 
Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.

He was the husband of Bertha Mae Cox Morel of Baton Rouge; father of Charmine 
Barrilleaux of Thibodaux, Maris Martinez of Baton Rouge, Sigmund Morel of 
Livingston and George Morel of Baton Rouge; brother of Catherine Hogg of Convent 
and Sidney Morel of Pacific, Mo.; and half brother of Melvina Engelhorn of Bay

He began at Nicholls as a psychology instructor and became director of the Upward 
Bound program in 1979. Upward Bound is a program designed to assist disadvantaged 
youths and help them graduate from high school.

Colleagues at Nicholls describe Morel as a great speaker and a constant 
inspiration to others.

He was a popular keynote speaker for student and staff functions, speaking most 
often on topics of self-esteem and how-to-succeed.

Morel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in the Korean War and the owner of Successful 
Human Development.

Dr. Raymond Calecas dies while driving car

Dr. Raymond J. Calecas, 66, of Thibodaux, died Sunday after he lost consciousness 
while driving and hit a utility pole on St. Mary Street in Thibodaux.

Calecas was travelling east on St. Mary Street at 9:55 a.m. Sunday when he 
apparently lost control of his vehicle and swerved to the right, Thibodaux Police 
Chief Keith Estevens said.

He overcorrected to the left and ran into a pole in between West Main Pizza and 
Church's Fried Chicken.

When officers reached him he appeared to be unconscious and was taken to Thibodaux 
Hospital and Health Centers, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m.

"There was no apparent injury to Dr. Calecas and no other vehicle involved," 
Estevens said. "He'll be sadly missed by the community though he was a very good 
doctor."

An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death, Estevens said.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Genevieve 
Catholic Church in Thibodaux for Calecas, a native of New Orleans and a resident 
of Thibodaux.

Visitation is scheduled from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until funeral 
time at the church. Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery.

He was the husband of Audrey Dolese Calecas; and father of Patrick Joseph Calecas, 
Robin Calecas Kuebel and Karen Calecas Raynal. He is also survived by five 
grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gottfried Calecas and Veronica Gillan 
Calecas; and his son Raymond J. Calecas Jr.

Calecas was president of the James D. Rives Surgical Society and past president 
of the Rotary Club of Thibodaux and the Lafourche Parish Medical Society.

He was a graduate of Jesuit High School, Loyola University and the LSU School of 
Medicine.

He was a general surgeon who practiced in Thibodaux for 35 years and was the team 
doctor for the Nicholls State Football Colonels.

Donations to the Raymond J. Calecas Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Nicholls State 
University are preferred.
