A graveside memorial service took place at 11 a.m. April 6 in Thibodaux for 
Freddie Williams Sr., 55, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Tampa, Fla., who 
died March 27.

He was the husband of Jean Williams of Thibodaux; father of Freddie Williams Jr. 
of Thibodaux and Michelle C. Williams Gary, Ind.; brother of David Ray 
Williams, Patric and Barry Carter, Mary Harrol and Gloria Judge, all of Tampa.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Rose May and Isiah Williams.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by ABM Maintenance of Tampa.

Irving Sison

A memorial Mass was celebrated Sunday afternoon at Christ the Redeemer Catholic 
Church in Thibodaux for Irving R. Sison, 72, a native of New Orleans and a 
resident of Slidell, who died Saturday, April 27.

He was the husband of Joyce Sison; the father of Bert Sison, JoAnn Gennusa, 
Roxann Petifils and Barry Sison; and the brother of Albert, Frank and Monroe 
Sison, and Evelyn Moran and Joan Doll. He is also survived by four 
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Earl Brown Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's 
Catholic Church in Raceland for Earl J. Brown Jr., 42, a native and resident of 
Raceland, who died at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday, May 1.

Visitation is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time 
Saturday at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland.

Burial is in the church cemetery.

He was the husband of Livea Thibodeaux Brown, son of Carmelite Forte Brown and 
Earl J. Brown Sr., and stepson of Mrs. Earl J. Brown Sr.; father of Earl J.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne 
Catholic Church in Bourg for Randal Gene Trahan, 48, a native, of Houma and a 
resident of Bourg, who died Wednesday, May 1.

Visitation is scheduled for 8-11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Anne Recreation Center 
in Bourg. Burial will take place in the St. Anne Catholic Cemetery in Bourg.

He was the husband of Eleanor "Chickie" Trahan; the father of Troy and April 
Trahan; brother of Anthony, Robert, and Susan Trahan, and Sandra Carter. He is 
also survived by one grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Breaux Trahan.

He was a member of the U.S. Air Force and a veteran of the Vietnam War.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Samart Funeral Home in 
Bayou Blue for Raoul P. "Frenchy" Bergeron, 85, a native of Schriever and 
resident of Gray, who died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He was the father of Sidney Bergeron of Bayou Blue and Robert Bergeron of 
Schriever; and the brother of Claude Bergeron and Gertie Wertenberger of 
Schriever. He is also survived by two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Iva Gaston Bergeron; parents, Sidney 
and Zenobia Stevens Bergeron; brothers Earl "Bad Eye" and Dewey Bergeron; 
sisters, Myrtle Boudreaux, Velma Moreau, Sadie Stinson, Pearl Mire and Nettie 
Stevens.

A religious service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in 
Thibodaux for Paul Wilton "Pluto" Ledet, 72, a native and resident of Thibodaux, who 
died Friday, May 3.

Visitation will be 5 to 10 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to Funeral time Tuesday at 
Thibodaux Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

He was the father of Linda Bourgeois, Deborah Wantlin, Rose Gilleland and 
Pauline Gagliano; brother of Louis J. Ledet Jr. and Mae Dugas. He is also 
survived by seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elmira C. Ledet; parents, Louis J. Sr. 
and Leoncia Ordoyne Ledet; and a brother, Herbert J. Ledet.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired employee of Texaco. He was a 
member of V.F.W. Thibodaux Memorial Post 5097.

Home in Bayou Blue for Laddis Champagne, 75, a native and resident of Bourg, 
who died Saturday, May 4.

He was the husband of Janet W. Champagne; father of Paul and Robert Champagne 
and Cheryl Champagne of Boutte; brother of Agnes Kirsh. He is also survived by 
four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walton and Nettie Hotard Champagne; a 
sister, Mollie Keller; two brothers, Eldred and Ronald Champagne; and a 
grandchild.

Joseph Catholic Church in Galliano for Azemia Pitre Duet, 84, a native and 
resident of Galliano who died at 2 a.m. Saturday, May 4.

Burial will be in Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.

She was the mother of Gerald and Jimmy Duet, Bell Lefebvre, Levonda Cheramie, 
Janet Beard, Geraldine Curole and Donyln Guillot; sister of Mrs. Lodgar (Sally) 
Duet. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 
eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonce Duet Sr.; parents, Adolphine 
Hebert and Pierre J. Pitre Sr.; two sons, Leonce Jr. and Lindon Duet; four 
brothers, Arnold, Pierre Jr., Alvin and Ecland Pitre Sr.; three sisters, Edna 
Cheramie, Rosie Terrebonne and Lydia Pitre; and a grandson, Johnny Lefebvre.

She was a parishioner of St. Joseph.

Catholic Church in Gheens for Gloria Ledet Dufrene, 68, a native of Larose and 
resident of Gheens, who died at 9 a.m. Saturday. May 4.

Burial was in Holy Savior Cemetery in Lockport.

She was the wife of Esward Dufrene; mother of Cary Dufrene, Sandra D. Billiot, 
Gale D. Boldlee and Sally D. Griffin; sister of Chester and Roy Ledet. She is 
also survived by seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Maggie Orgeron Ledet; a 
brother, Beauregard Ledet Sr.; and a sister. Clara L. Matherne.

He was the husband of Hazel R. Gaudet; brother of Edgar Gaudet, Eliska Gaudet

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Alice Gervais Gaudet; two 
brothers, Reuben and Roland Gaudet; and two sisters, Lucy Gaudet McMurray and 
Leontine Gaudet Brady.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 
349, V.F.W. Post 3665 and KC Council 4761.

resident of Cut Off, who died Saturday, May 4.

She was the daughter of Augusta Plaisance; mother of Earl Gisclair, Doris 
Rousse and Janie Adams; sister of Herman, Landon and Ernest Plaisance, Irene 
Griffin, Irma Hartman, Ramona Williams and Rita Guidry. She is also survived by 
10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donatien Gisclair; father. Eves 
Plaisance: three brothers, Norman, Eves Jr. and Augustine Plaisance Sr.; and a 
great-grandchild.

Catholic Church in Montegut for Lois Amy Pellegrin Authement, 84, a native of 
Montegut and resident of Raceland, who died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday. May 5.

Burial was in the Church Cemetery.

She was the mother of Dr. Joel Phillip Authement of Lafayette, Mrs. Reed (Sylvia 
Marie) Folse of Raceland and Mrs. Ed (Elaine Bernadette) Richard of Houma; 
sister of Gilmore "Choop" Pellegrin of Montegut. She is also survived by 10 
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Joseph Authement; parents, 
Willis Noel and Cora Julia LeCompte Pellegrin; a sister, Leola Pellegrin; and 
two brothers, Lloyd arid Royal Pellegrin.

She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society of Sacred Heart, Catholic Daughters 
of America, she was Sacred Heart organist for more than 40 years, a member of 
the Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Receipt of the Bishop Medal.

She was the sister of Rose Cressionie, Melodia Guillot, Rose Mae Tauzin and Ruby 
Boudreaux.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bazile and Octavia LeBlanc LeBoeuf; a 
brother, Nickollas LeBoeuf; and three sisters, Celina Daigle, Margaret 
Cressionie and Edwina Guillot.

A religious service took place at 11	a.m. today at St. Paul Baptist Church 
in Napoleonville for Joseph "Bruster" Nelson Jr., 37, a native and resident of 
Napoleonville, who died Sunday, May 5.

Burial was in the Church Cemetery.

The Rev. David Gilton performed the ceremony.

He was the son of Cecil Nelson; brother of Virginia Curtis, Dianne Smith and 
Otis Joseph Sr., all of Napoleonville, Sylvester and Thomas Nelson, both of New 
Orleans, and Mary Ann Williams of Ponchatula.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Nelson Sr.

Dr. Powell dies Sunday morning

Dr. Joseph L. Powell

Dr. Joseph Lee Powell Jr., a general surgeon and Thibodaux resident for 40 
years, died of a heart attack in his home early Sunday morning.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Co-cathedral at 11 
a.m. Tuesday for Powell, 71, a native of Brighton, Ala., and a resident of 
Thibodaux, who died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, May 5.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church.

Burial will be in St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery.

He was the husband of Debbie Tesson Powell, father of Joseph L. Powell III and 
stepfather of Wesley Walker.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mimi Margaret Powell; and his first 
wife, Naomi Margaret Powell.

His wife Debbie remembers him as a compassionate man with a "zest for life."

"He really cared about people," she said.

She said he was a role model for young people and set an example of what people 
can do if they apply themselves.

"He inspired young people to get the best education they could," she said. "He 
really believed in higher education."

Walter Hackney, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Thibodaux, where 
Powell was a member, said Powell was very generous.

Powell donated much of the money to build the brick and wood sign out in front 
of the Church and also donated money for new Bibles and books which fill the 
pews today. Hackney said.

"He was extremely generous," he said.

"He was always friendly, too," he said. "He seemed to have a real concern about 
his patients. There was more than just a professional commitment to his 
patients."

Powell maintained a private practice and performed surgery at St. Joseph 
Hospital and Thibodaux Hospital.

He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, a past president of the 
Reeves Medical Society, director emeritus of Argent Bank, an E. D. White 
Foundation board member and past grand marshal of the Thibodaux Firemen's Fair.

Donations can be made to the E. D. White High School Foundation Memorial Fund.

Thibodaux for Dr. Joseph L. Powell Jr., 71, a native of Brighton, Ala., and

Burial was in St. John Episcopal Cemetery in Thibodaux.

He was the husband of Debra Tesson Powell; father of Joseph Lee Powell III and 
Wesley Walker; brother of Jefferson Lee and Ann Powell.

6.

He was the husband of Betty Blanchard Babin; father of Daniel and Perry Babin, 
both of Houma, Ronnie Babin of Shreveport and Jesse Babin Jr. of Virginia 
Beach, Va.; brother of Irvin Babin and Hilma Marcel, both of Houma, Drexter 
Babin of Orange, Texas, James Babin of Montegut, Hilda Hebert and Dolores 
Brien, both of Bayou Dularge, Wilma Golden of Memphis, Tenn., and Dianne 
Robichaux of Raceland. He is also survived by one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dule and Bernice Thibodaux Babin; four 
brothers, Johnny, Maurice, Hyrman and Ernest Babin; and three sisters, Marie, 
Delia and Bernica Babin.

He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette and served in the United States Army 
Reserves. He was a member of American Legion Post 31 and Elks Lodge 1193 where 
he was past exalter ruler twice and presently a district deputy. He was a barge 
foreman for J. Ray McDermott.

Thibodaux for the Rev. Ernest "Sidney" Watkins Sr., a native and resident of 
Thibodaux, who died at 4:15 a.m. Monday. May 6.

Visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Landry's Funeral Home in Thibodaux.

A Funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Moses Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

He was the husband of Cleora Goudy Watkins; father of the Rev. Ernest Jr. 
Philip, Moses and Freddie Watkins, Delores Henderson, Louise Landers and 
Dorothy Johnson; brother of James Watkins, Daisy Clark and Viola Hamilton. He 
is also survived by nine step-children, 29 grandchildren, 45 great-
grandchildren and a host of step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elnora Toussaint Watkins; parents, 
Adam Sr. and Rose Crawford Watkins; a son, Wesley Watkins Sr.; two daughters, 
Leona W. Weber and Adlean Watkins; four brothers, Allen, Adam Jr., Louis and 
Davis Watkins; and two sisters, Stella W. Ross and Martha Watkins.

He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge No. 15 and was a gospel ministry and pastor 
of Old Fountain Baptist Church until his illness. He was a retired farm worker 
and a resident of Audubon Guest House.

resident of Thibodaux, who died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at her home on 
Rienzi Plantation.

She was the mother of Lawrence Constant Levert III, Stephanie Marie Levert, 
Winston Levert "Winnie" Goulas and Mary Jacqueline Tutwiler Levert (Adndolsek); 
sister of Pauline "Peg" Tutwiler. She is also survived by nine grandchildren 
and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence "Pi Pi" Constant Levert Jr.; 
parents, Edward Magruder Tutwiler Jr. and Mary Jacqueline Anderson Tutwiler; a 
grandchild, Eric Thomas Andolsek; a brother, Edward Magruder Tutwiler III; and 
a sister. Jacqueline Tutwiler Levert.

Church, located at 19839 La. 644 Vacherie.

He was the husband of Marion Barrios Robichaux; son of Irene Verret Robichaux; 
father of Colby Robichaux, Carrie Gutrihge, Carla Huntwork and Charlotte "Char" 
Abadie; brother of Shirley Rae Bollinger and Marlyn Moran. He is also survived 
by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dominique and Charles Vincent Smith;

She was the sister of Dolores Monnig and Irene Brown, both of St. Louis.

Sister Giovanna was a School Sister of Notre Dame for more than 60 years. She 
held a bachelor of arts degree in history and philosophy and a master's in 
education with a specialization in education of the deaf, speech therapy and 
special education.

In 1981 she began serving as a teacher and aide for hearing impaired students with 
the Lafourche Parish School System in Lockport until illness incapacitated her in 
January. Prior to serving in Lafourche Parish, she served with the Chinchuba 
Institute for the Deaf in Marrero in 1944. She joined the facility of Annunciation 
School in Bogalusa in 1979.

Donations to St. Mary of the Pines Retirement Community, Chatawa, Miss. 39632 
are preferred.
