He was the husband of Emma Lee Dominique Foret; son of Maunsell J. and Dorothy Guidry Foret; father of Jim and Jan Foret, both of Orlando; and brother of Ted and Cynthia Foret, both of Houma, Ethel Toups of Gheens, and Pansy Robichaux of Raceland. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Widley Guidry, and Mr. and Mrs. Elton Foret. He was a retired Navy Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. He spent more than 26 years in active military service. He enlisted in the Navy is March 1969. After bootcamp in Great Lakes, Ill, he served on the USS Galveston out of San Diego, Calif. He went to Vietnam in 1972 and served with the Marines 3rd Recon Battalion. There he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received while rendering first aid to injured Marine s. After Vietnam and graduation from Independent Corps School, he served at the Naval Support Center New Orleans and on the USS Lawe (DD-765) out of New Orleans. In 1982, he was reassigned to the Marines at Camp Lejeune, N.C. As a battalion medical chief there, he was reassigned to the Marine unit deployed for Granada in 1983. Its mission was the rescue of American medical students held captive by Cuban forces. After combat in Granada, his unit did not return home but continued on to Beirut, Lebanon. Their mission was to help with clean up efforts after the terrorist attack on the Marine Headquarters building. As part of the American Contingent of Multinational Peace Keeping Forces in Beirut, he and his corpsmen set up a battalion medical aid station to treat the wounded. One hundred twenty-seven American lay wounded and 241 more were dead and buried under devastation. It was here that he earned his third Combat Action Award and was later presented the George Piercy Award for his outstanding efforts in this combat arena. He received orders to Naval Hospital Orlando in September 1985. There he served as the hospital's first enlisted security officer. >From the Naval hospital he transferred to Orlando's Marine Corps Reserve Center on Primrose Drive and was soon appointed 4th Medical Battalion's first enlisted Office r-In-Charge. Kidd Sr. He was a graduate of Louisiana Technical College and earned his Doctor of Optometry Degree in 1940 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn. After passing his State Board Examination, he entered the United States Army as an optometrist. He desired a combat commission, and was admitted to the Army Officer Candidate School Program. After graduating as an officer, he was sent overseas with an automatic weapons unit, landing in the invasion of Europe at Omaha Beach as part of the 79th Infantry Division. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge and Remagin Bridge Battle. He was later called as a Public Health Officer under Col. Strom Thurmand. Under Thurmand, he served at Buchenwald Concentration Camp and at Landkreis Pegnitz. He received an honorable discharge from the United State Army Reserve Corps in 1952 with the rank of major. Professionally, he practiced optometry in private and group practice since 1947 in Franklin and Morgan City. He was considered to be a contact le ns pioneer during the early part of his career. He was a member of the Louisiana State Association of Optometrists, the South Central Optometric Society and the New Orleans Contact Lens Society. He previously served as Secretary of Treasury and Director of the "Doc Neva Andre" Drilling Corporation, with inland drilling barges and boats. He served as president and secretary for the Council on Aging and was an advocate for the "Meals on Wheels" program. He was a past post commander of the local Veterans of Foreign War and a member of the American Legion. He also served as an Elder in Grace Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution since 1983. He previously served as a board member of First National Bank and was a founding director for Mid South National Bank.
