She earned a B.A. from Louisiana State University and became a registered nurse in 1938. She was Director of Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing in Baton Rouge until 1942. She was an Army nurse in World War II, where she organized and supervised a school for cadet student nurses and attained the rank of Captain. She was a Louisiana Social Worker in Lafourche Parish from 1952 until she retired. During this time she started the first Louisiana nursing home for people of color.
