He was a member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church, where he served on the building committee, served as deacon, computerized various systems of the church, taught Sunday school and sang. He also helped the elderly in the area with their every day needs and volunteered his time and donated land to his parents' and neighbors' church, the Ben's Ford Church. He helped to create the Bogalusa Water District and the Washington Parish Fire Protection District 7 system, where he served as a charter member and the secretary until his death. He was a charter member of the Bogalusa Masonic Lodge and a member of the Center and Varnado Lodges and Shriners organizations. Collins Sr., 86, of Grand Isle died at 8:05 a.m. April 21, 2001 at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma. He was a long time employee of Texaco and later was an independent consultant working in supervisory positions in the drilling industry in North America, South Americ a, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, West Africa and North Africa. For the last 15 years, much of his time was spent fishing from his incredibly productive pier in Caminada Bay, where he also watched and catalogued his beloved Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins. He was in the first graduating class of Golden Meadow High School in 1934 and attended Louisiana State University. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maxine Brock Collins of Kenner; son, George J. Collins Jr. of Houma; daughter-in-law, Jan Irwin Collins; grandsons, Dr. Geoffrey J.
