In 1951, he graduated from St. Louis University with a bachelor's degree in geophysics and received the Father MacLewane Award for outstanding work in geophysics. After graduation, he was employed by Atlantic Richfield Corporation, now known as ARCO. In 1966, he and his family moved to Lafayette, which began his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. While in Boy Scout Troop 156, chartered by Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, he served as troop committeeman and troop chairman, troop advancement chairman, assistant scoutmaster and a merit badge counselor. From 1968 until 1970, he served as the district adult leader training chairman. In addition, he s erved in other district roles from 1967 until 1973, including the Eagle Board of Review and the neighborhood commissioner. His service began at the council level in 1968 serving as adult leader training chairman, Order of the Arrow Lodge advisory, camping committeeman, executive board member, council finance committee, council activities committee and council salary review committee. From 1975 until 1976, he served as the council commissioner. Since 1976, he served on the national jamboree committee. From 1978 to present, he served on the council properties committee. In 1982, he founded an organized the Council's Campmaster Corps and served as chairman until 1998. Since 1985, he served on the Council and Area One Camp Inspection Team. He has been an executive board member of the Evangeline Area Council for 35 years and served on the council executive committee. He has been on the Catholic committee on scouting from 1989 until 2000. He served as chairman of the awards committee for six years and Bishop's dinner chairman for two years. He was presented the Bronze Pelican Award, the William McGoffin Memorial Award and the St. George Award. Other scouting awards include the Scouter's Training Award, Wood Badge Award and the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor. He was a sustaining member of the Evangeline area council, Boy Scouts o f America at the patron level and was a James E. West Endowment Fellow. Other civic and church activities include service as a counselor for seven years at Camp Bluebird, a volunteer visitor at Our Lady of the Lourdes Hospital, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanities, board member sand past president of the Monsignor Sigur Foundation, regional chairman for the Lafayette region of the Bishop's Service Appeal for 18 years and general chairman in 1995. In 1997, he was a recipient of the Beyond the Call Award presented by BellSouth Mobility for his outstanding community service. He retired from ARCO in 1985. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette where he was an usher, parish president, trustee for two years and served on may committees. He was awarded the 1995 Bishop's Medal for devoted and outstanding service and the 1990 Faithful Servant Award. In 1976, he was award the Sivler Beaver. On his nomination form it read, " Norb is one hell of a fine fellow!" He served nine years as lodge advisor.
