The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ December 20. 2004 1:12PM Alma Bourgeois Alma Cancienne Bourgeois, 89, a native and resident of Thibodaux, died at 11 p.m. Dec. 19, 2004. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Landry's Funeral Home in Thibodaux and from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Co-cathedral in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial at the church cemetery. She is survived by her sons, Dickie and Martin Bourgeois of Thibodaux; daughters, Chris Bourgeois Credeur of Opelousas, Claire Bourgeois Grubbs of Thibodaux and Marie Bourgeois Ward of New Orleans; brother, Phillip Cancienne of Thibodaux; sisters, Odette Naquin of Thibodaux and Elsie Behrhorst of Lafayette; and grandchildren, John Credeur, Adam Credeur, Ricardo Hernandez and Caroline Bourgeois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Bourgeois, a local merchant; and parents, Philip J. and Annette Kerne Cancienne. She was a homemaker and one of the first State of Louisiana social workers during the early 1930s. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul are preferred. Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
