Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland and from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Houma. A religious service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with burial will be in the St. Luke Cemetery In Houma. She is survived by her daughters, Gustavia S. Richardson, Hattie S. Coleman, Vera S. Hodges, Amy Smith, Patricia Smith, and Sandra Smith, all of Raceland and Geraldine S. Jones of New Orleans; sons, Robert, Evan Jr., Earl, Leonard, Herman, Jerry Lee, and Sylvester Smith, all of Raceland; sisters, Rosemary Thibodaux and Hattie Celestine Smith of Houma; 44 grandchildren, 46 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Smith Sr.; parents, Robert and Mary Jane Thomas Celestine; daughter, Dorothy Mae Smith; stepdaughter, Emily Williams Lee; brothers, Herman Celestine, the Rev. Leonard Celestine Sr., and Hillary Celestine; and sisters, Viola Moore and Elvira Thibodaux. She was a member of the Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church and served on the deaconess board. Her hobbies included cooking. Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
