Ivy Smith Sr.						[Photo]

Ivy "Smitty" Joseph Smith Sr., 87, a native of Southdown Plantation and resident of Donner-Chacahoula, died at 8:42 a.m. Dec. 18, 2004.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at noon today at St. Francis de Sales 
Cathedral, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Lirette Smith of Houma; sons, Ivy Smith Jr. 
of Baton Rouge, Danny Smith, and James "Jimmy" Smith of Houma; daughter, Therese 
Oubre of Houma; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Xavier Smith and Priscilla Bergeron 
Smith; brother, Ira Smith; and sister, Vernice Bagwell.

He was a retired advertising director for The Houma Courier and a parishioner of 
St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th 
degree and a past member of the Usher Society at the church.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
