Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with burial at Holy Rosary cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marion Picou Kurtz of Houma; sons, Knute Kurtz of Los Angeles and Kenrick Kurtz of Houma; adopted son, Jerry Kurtz of Houma; daughters, Kimmie K. Hall of Hattiesburg, Miss., Agnes K. Bearden of Memphis, Tenn. and Anna K. Hudson of Columbus, GA; brother, Douglas Kurtz of Montegut; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold V. and Agnes Levron Kurtz; and son, Kerwin Peter Kurtz. He was an active deacon at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and retired after 25.5 years as a postal clerk for the U.S. government, an assistant chaplain for Terrebonne General Medical Center, and active in numerous community organizations, including D.A.V., V.F.W., Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Association, Retired Federal Employees, International Order of Alhambra, Knights of Columbus, A.J. Caillouet Council 336, Houma Council 1317 K of C, and the American Diabetes Association. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a purple heart recipient. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of South Louisiana, 6500 Main St., Houma 70360 or Terrebonne Association for Retarded Citizens, 1 McCord Road, Houma, 70363, are preferred. Chauvin Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
