Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles. A religious service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Consolata Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace Guillory Carpenter; son Kevin P. Carpenter; and grandchildren John and Mark Carpenter, all of Labadieville; and brother James Carpenter of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by sisters Essie Williams of Pitkin, Elvie Turner of Buna, Texas, and Emma Harper of Baton Rouge., He was born in Oberlin and was a graduate of Oberlin High School. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrician for more than 50 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 861. He loved his family and especially his grandsons. Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles is in charge of arrangements.
