Brooks, 89, a native of Gheens and resident of Thibodaux, died Oct. 22, 2004. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Thibodaux. A religious service will be held at 8 p.m. today at the church, with dismissal at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church and burial at the church cemetery. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Bell Brooks Johnson of Addis and Jean Dell Williams of Thibodaux; sons, Lionel H. Brooks of Michigan City, Ind., Murrell H. Brooks and Bertrand G. Brooks of Houma and John Lawrence Brooks Jr. of Thibodaux; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Louin" Lawrence Brooks Sr.; parents, Enoch Sr. and Melvenia Smith; an adopted daughter, Ceola Brooks Trudeaux; brother, Enoch Smith Jr.; sisters, Sarah Gray, Louise Brooks, Polly Reado, Fannie and Edna. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served on the deaconess board. Her hobbies included fishing, cooking and sewing. Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
