"Buckwheat" Dumas Sr., 78, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Oct. 12, 2004, at Terrebonne General Medical Center. Visitation will be 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Leona S. Dumas; daughters, Mary Smith, Sally Westley, Cynthia D. Himes and Ailien Ferchaud; sons, Nicholas, Whitney Jr., Harvey, Matthew, Timothy and Brian Dumas; brothers, Paul, Russell and Anthony Dumas; sisters, Wilbourine Steib, Mary Freeman and Celeste James. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rose Dumas; daughter, Marie Rose Dumas; brothers, Harry, John and Haywood Dumas; sisters, Agnes Wooden and Victoria Simon. He was a member of the Good Children Society, American Legion Post 565 and the Knights of Peter Claver Council 161. Williams and Southall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
