Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Community Funeral Home and from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Greater New Salem Baptist Church. Wake services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at New Rising Sun Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in Deweyville Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Gary Verret; three sons, Reginald W. Verret of Baton Rouge and Darrel J. Verret and Efrem J. Brown, both of Dallas; two daughters, Gloria A. Verret of North Carolina and Shemada M. Verret of Houma; two adopted sons, Micheal Jones of Houma and Bruce Broussard of Morgan City; six adopted daughters, Audrey Alridge, Linda Jones, Dorothy Jones and Audretta Wilkerson, all of Houma, and Martha Watson and Ethel Bonnett; two brothers, Arthur Verret and Benjamin Rollins; one sister, Marion "Patsy" Taylor; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 15 adopted grandchildren; and 13 adopted great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Verret and Louise Celestine Verret; one brother, Harold Verret Jr.; and one sister, Leontine V. Robinson. He was a retired educator with the Terrebonne Parish School Board. He was a member of Blaine C. Lodge since 1949, serving as worship master for 16 years, recorder and on the Trustee Board. He was a past member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors, past president of Terrebonne Parish Education Association, past chairman and member of Selective Service Board No. 66, past director of the City Recreation for negroes, past member of the Board of Directors for New Orleans area Health Planning Council, past Institutional Represent-ative of the Boy Scouts of America, past member of the Board of Directors of Terrebonne Parish Chapter of the Tuberculosis Association, past president and chairman of the Board of Directors of Community Funeral Home of Houma Inc., past member of Technical Committee of Houma-Terrebonne Mass Transit Committee, past alternate member of the board of Directors of South Central Regional Planning Commission, past member of the Supervisory Board of St. Lucy's Community Center, past vice- chairman of the Board of Directors of Terrebonne Education Association Credit Union, past member of Terrebonne Parish School Board, past chairman and member of the Board of Directors of Terrebonne General Medical Center, past president and chairman of the Board of Directors of Retired Teachers Education Association, past member and Board of Directors of United Way of Terrebonne Parish Inc., a member of Southern University Alumni Association and member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He received the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award NAACP. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf and was a member of Greater New Salem Baptist Church.
