Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial at the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Byrne Ellender Legendre; sons, Irving "Ed" Legendre III of Bradenton, Fla., Will Legendre of New Iberia; daughters, Mary Byrne Bordelon of Houma, Adeline Bernard of Thibodaux and Katie Hebert of Houma; brothers, Ben and Gus Legendre, both of Thibodaux; sisters, Irene Legendre of Thibodaux, Pat O'Grady of St. Louis, Mo. And Ellie Toups of Thibodaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving E. Legendre Sr. and Eloise Smith Legendre; and daughter, Julie Irene Legendre. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy and Louisiana University in Baton Rouge. During his lifetime he was the past president and general manager of Lafourche Sugars Corp., he served on the Lafourche Parish Polie Jury, was the past president of the American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, the past president of the American Sugar Cane League and a past member of the board of directors of Argent Bank. He was also affiliated with many civic and and community organizations and charities. Landry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
