Lytal III, 63, of Lockport, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Lindy Boggs Medical Center in New Orleans. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Thursday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Debra Tesson Powell; son James IV; daughters Gerilyn Roth and Debra Lytal; three grandchildren; and brother Patrick Lytal. He was the founder and president of Lytal Enterprises Inc., Lytal Marine Services LLC and a number of other companies involved in the offshore marine industry, real estate development and the automotive industry. All of his companies were headquartered in Lockport. He and his family moved to Lockport at an early age. He received his early training in the marine industry from Donald Bollinger Sr., whom he regarded as a mentor and close friend. Lytal was an avid fisherman and in earlier years also loved to hunt. He was involved in a number of civic and patriotic projects including the Rotary Club of Lockport and was an initial contributor to the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans. He was also a former member of the State of Louisiana Commerce and Industry Committee. He was a graduate of Lockport High School and attended Louisiana State University. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Lytal's memory can be made to the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans and to the American Cancer Society.
