The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ August 09. 2005 11:44AM Milton Ockman [Photo] Milton Henry Ockman, 62, a native of New Orleans and resident of Raceland, died at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6, 2005 of complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Visitation will be 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Raceland. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at noon, with burial at the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Susan Chauvin Ockman of Raceland; sons and daughter- in-law, Ronald Joseph and Yvonne Ockman and Mark Robert Ockman, all of Raceland; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie O. and Wes Pitts of Raceland, sisters and brothers-in-law Marie O. and Cliff Williams of Georgetown, Texas, Gloria O. Norton, Earline O. and Joe Carambat, all of Waveland, Miss.; and grandchildren Kristen, Erin and Austin Ockman, Madison Pitts and Trevor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph Ockman and Palmire Tanguis Ockman; and brother Robert Ockman Jr. He was a retired engineer for Union Pacific Railroad and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, where he served as paymaster and commandant, as well as serving as coordinator for Toys for Tots. He also served as coordinator for the Bayou Parish Detachment of the Young Marines. In 2005, he was named Marine of the Year.
