Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Houma. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Thursday at the church, with burial at St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Sue Robichaux Barker of Houma; sons Richard H. Barker III and Kenneth James Barker; daughters Jeannie McKey, Patricia Carey and Mary Sue DeGeneres; brothers Donald Barker and Robert Barker; sisters Marie Ware, Sallie Licalzi and Mary Francis Schnider; 21 grandchildren; and 45 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard H. Barker Sr. and Marie Blanchard Barker and daughter Dr. Ann Barker. He was semi-retired. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He grew up in the automobile business with his father, became the manager of Terrebonne Motor Co. in 1941 and became the dealer Terrebonne Motor Co. Inc. in Houma in 1943. He served in many positions of leadership in numerous automobile dealer associations. He was a member of the Ford Dealer Advertising Group, member of the Ford Dealer Council, member of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, a District 3 representative of LADA and was an LADA Regional Dealer of the Year. He was a member of the First National Bank of Houma board of directors from 1964-90 and served as chairman of the board from 1986-90. He was a former member of the Rotary Club. He was a former director of the Houma Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the World War II Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Terrebonne Parish WWII Rationing Board and Selective Service Board. He was an original member of the Terrebonne Parish Zoning and Planning Commission, a charter member of the Krewe of Houmas; and was king of Houmas in 1961. He attended and graduated from Thibodaux College in residence. His hobbies included golf, boating and flying. He was extremely knowledgeable and loved to discuss the history of Lafourche Parish. Although he was never in the oil business, he knew, associated with and worked with the pioneers of the oil industry in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. He devoted much of his life to helping the priests and religious in South Louisiana. He loved to meet and visit with people and begin friendships that literally lasted a lifetime.
