The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ September 19. 2005 3:53PM Clifton Giroir Sr. [Photo] Clifton "Pop" Francis Giroir Sr., 90, a native of Bayou Black and resident of Houma, died at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 16, 2005. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and 8 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery. He is survived by Clifton "Pookie" Giroir Jr. and wife, Sue, of Houma and Deacon Charles "Chuck" Giroir and wife, Margaret, of Thibodaux; daughter, Linda G. Breaux and husband, Sam, of Houma; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Arceneaux Giroir; parents, Jean Sylvester Giroir and Adline Breaux Giroir; brother, Milton Giroir; and sister, Rose Giroir Guidry Domangue. He was a retired food store and restaurant owner. He was a chief petty officer and World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and received commendations from Rear Admiral J.D. Price for outstanding duty. He was a member of the Terrebonne Art League, past commander of V.F.W. Post 3700 and was the first recipient of the Terrebonne Citizenship Award in 1948. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette.
