A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in Houma, with burial at First Israel Baptist Church Cemetery in Belle Rose. She is survived by her daughter Sylvia Russ; sons the Rev. Gilbert Washington Jr., Tom Washington and Craig Washington; brother Freddie Winford of Columbus, Ga., 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gilbert Royal Washington Sr.; brothers Elmore Winford, Samuel Winford and Pat Winford; sisters Mildred Moore, Josephine Beasley and Angelette Dixon. She was a Baptist and a member and co-founder of Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Mass Choir, secretary of the choir, and Missionary Society youth department director. She headed various committees. She was a Sunday school teacher and involved in the Women's Ministry. She was founder of Guiding Light Loving Care Day Care Center. She enjoyed singing and teaching. A graduate of Southern University, she was director of Loving Care Day Care Center of Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Church. Community Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of arrangements.
