Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Moses Baptist Church in Thibodaux. A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Young Men's Benevolent Cemetery at Lafourche Crossing. He is survived by his daughters Eula Dicks of Gray, Lucille Hampton of Thibodaux, Elsie Poindexter, Louise Poindexter, Doris Verrett, and Linda Young of Raceland, and Bernadine Howard of Des Allemands; sons Herman Hampton of Gramercy, Bruce Hampton of New Iberia, Lloyd and Marvin Hampton of Thibodaux; brother, Richard Hampton of New Orleans; 35 grandchildren; and 46 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Ellis Hampton; parents, Mitchell Sr. and Eliza Sewire Hampton; sisters Charlotte Walker, and Cecille Cameron; and brothers, Lee, Claude, Mitchell Jr., Elezian and Richard Hampton. He served as the chairman of the Deacon Board at St. Paul Baptist Church. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and working in his garden. Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
