A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at La Chapelle de Martin and Castille. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. The Rev. Keith J. DeRouen, rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Readings will be read by his granddaughters, Jeanne Pellerin and Chrissy Billeaud. Acolytes are Peter Champagne, Jacques Bienvenu and Nicholas Bienvenu. Giftbearers are Shannon Billeaud, Peggy Champagne, Emily Castille and Amy Gaspard. He will be dearly missed by his five children, Gil Weimer and his wife, Gayle, Lynnie Bienvenu and her husband, Freddie, Elizabeth Castille and her husband, Alan, Susan Hebert and Ellen Billeaud. He will also be fondly remembered by his thirteen grandchildren, Eric and David Weimer, Amy Gaspard, Pat Bienvenu, Peggy Champagne, Jeanne Pellerin, Jenny Gilmore, Emily and Zachary Castille, Scott and Hunter Hebert, Chrissy and Shannon Billeaud and nearly 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mim Schmidt of Statesboro, Ga., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen St. Julien Weimer, as well as his parents Necia Leblanc Weimer and John Weimer; brothers, Roy, John and Dan Weimer and a sister, Ruth Edwards. He was also preceded in death by his beloved aunt and uncle Alice "Tal" and Denny Diaz of Thibodaux. Born in Boutte in 1915, Mr. Weimer was the son of John L. Weimer and Necia LeBlanc. He was educated in Terrebonne Parish and graduated from Terrebonne High School in Houma. In 1938, he graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) with a bachelor's degree in education and was a member of the Sigma Pi Alpha Fraternity. He also completed post graduate studies at Louisiana State University where he was a member of Phi Delta Kappa honorary education society. He taught school in Welsh and Crowley and served as principal of Donaldsonville Elementary School in Donaldsonville. He also taught at the Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi. Highly involved in everything in which he participated, Weimer was a charter member of the Donaldsonville Lions Club and served as the president of the Lafayette Lions Club, where he was selected as outstanding member of the year. Mr. Weimer was also a charter member of the Oakbourne Country Club and served on the membership committee for many years as well as serving as the President from 1982- 1983. He spent many years as an avid golfer and traveled the country with his wife to play on PGA tournament courses. He was also a member of Krewe of Gabriel for many years. A very successful businessman, Mr. Weimer established an Ethan Allen Gallery, Weimer's Carriage House, and served as president for its entirety until his retirement in 1988. A Rosary will be prayed Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Martin and Castille Funeral Home of Lafayette. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday.
