The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ November 29. 2005 12:13PM Nelda Sue Carroll Nelda Sue Carroll died at 9 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2005 at River Region Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 55. She was born on May 1, 1950, in Hammond. She attended Jackson High School with the class of 1968, and received her equivalency diploma in January 1970. She studied nursing at Hammond Area Vocational School, and was certified as a nurse by the State of Louisiana in 1971 and 1984. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 23 years, and worked for Thibodaux Health Care, formerly Heritage Manor Nursing Home, since 1982 where she had been voted employee of the month several times by the residents. She continued her studies in nursing at Nicholls University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She had been a member of the Thibodaux Jaycees, and did volunteer work with the Special Olympics for several years. She was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts Association of America. She loved to read, and her favorite book and film was "Gone With the Wind." She had seven cats which she doted on. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and was dedicated to and much loved her family who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Nathan "Bilbo" Conleay, and mother, Juanita Caston Conleay. She is survived by two sisters, Betty and husband, Kim, Verret of New Iberia and Evelyn Schilling of Jackson; two brothers, Ronald and wife, Becky, Conleay Bossier City, and Lawrence Conleay, who passed away on Nov. 26; and sons Jeff and wife, Dawn, Carroll of New Orleans, Chris Carroll of San Francisco; her former husband Wallace Carroll of El Dorado, Ark.; grandson Zachary Carroll of New Orleans; and many other relatives and friends. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday graveside, at the Second Baptist Church, on Highway 10, in Jackson, and will be presided over by brother Mack Stewart. Services will also be held for her brother Lawrence Conleay at the same location, with viewing beginning at 8 a.m. Friends and relatives are welcome from 8 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in her name at River Region Hospice.
