Matherne, 88, a native of Chackbay and resident of Mathews, died at 7 a.m. April 21, 2005. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. today at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Mathews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at the church, with burial at Resurrection Memorial Park in Mathews. She is survived by her sons, Roland, Lester and Buddy Matherne; daughters, Una Adams, Gloria Melancon and Flo Matherne; brother, Vellier Landry; sisters, Leona Bergeron, Una Ledet and Doris Sanchez; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clemille "Joe" Matherne; parents, Felecien and Ernesia R. Landry; daughter, Dolores Matherne; brothers, Ernest, Eugene and Moise Landry; sisters, Noby Levron, Mildred Blanche Keller, Bernice Aucoin and Elise Cheramie. She was a parishioner of St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church. Falgout Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
