A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Chacahoula, with burial at the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Julie T. Barnes; sons, Donnie Barnes of Thibodaux, Ira "Sonny" Barnes Jury of Gray, Tenn., and John Barnes of Iuka, Miss.; daughters, Jackie Luke of Houma and Wanda Robichaux of Donner; brothers, Jesse "J.B." Barnes, Frank Wayne Barnes, Carvis Lovelace, Nathan Lovelace and Doyal Lovelace; sister, Ruth Gist; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Caroline Nunley of Iuka, father, Jesse Jackson Barnes of Burnsville; stepmother, Allie Ophea Barnes of Burnsville; son, Dennis J. Barnes Sr.; brothers, James "Dude" Barnes, David Lovelace and Avon Lovelace; and sisters, Mollie "Sis" Bray, Lena "Dee" South and Ona Mae "Pean" Moorehead.
