The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ June 29. 2005 12:12PM John Kyle Jr. John Edwin Kyle Jr., 87, a native of New Iberia and resident of Morgan City, died at 4 p.m. June 25, 2005. A memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. The Rev. Roy Mellish, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, will deliver the memorial service to be followed by a reception to honor his life and accomplishments. He was cremated. A burial service will be held Saturday in New Iberia. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Kyle of New Iberia; eight nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Kyle Sr.; and sisters, Virginia Kyle Hine and Katherine McKerral Kyle. He attended public schools in Iberia Parish, graduating from high school in 1934. From 1935-1941 he attended Sewanee Military Academy, Tulane University and Louisiana State University and in 1941 joined the U.S. Navy, where he served with distinction as a Navy officer in the Pacific Theater where he was given the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He was a pioneer in the offshore oilfield service business from 1946 to 1963. He was manager of the family-owned Drilling Mud Company in Berwick. In 1955, he co-founded and served as the first chairman and CEO of Tidewater Marine, which designed and built the first oilfield supply boat in its classic configuration.
