The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ March 21. 2005 12:05PM John Rabb John Hughes Rabb, a retired teacher and administrator for Lafourche Parish schools, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. He was 67, a native of Shreveport and a lifelong resident of Larose for the past 44 years. He graduated from Greenwood High School and Northwestern State University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and master's degree in administration and supervision. He was employed as a teacher at Larose-Cut Off and South Lafourche high schools and most recently as assistant principal at Larose Cut-Off Middle School. For 20 years, he was employed as personnel manager at Lafourche Telephone Co. Rabb was a member of the Bayou Civic Club in Larose, serving as president and board member for many years. He presided as grand marshal of the French Food Festival and was a Hall of Fame recipient in 1997. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, serving on its parish council and as its president. He was formerly employed as parish youth minister for the church and served as a eucharistic minister and lector. For many years he was a member of the Krewe of Versailles and was its first captain. In 1979, the South Lafourche Chamber of Commerce selected him as Citizen of the Year. He served on the Board of Directors of Lady of the Sea Hospital and was a member of the National Peer Helpers Association, as well as several educational and professional groups. He is survived by his wife, Mary Dunckelman Rabb; his son, Gregory Dunckelman Rabb; daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Comeaux Rabb; grandson, Will Rene' Rabb; and granddaughter, Kelly Katherine Rabb. His parents Hollis L and John M. Rabb and his daughter Kelly Elizabeth Rabb preceded him in death. Rabb will be remembered for his dedication to the causes of youth. He was a staunch advocate for young people and devoted his life in their behalf. He enjoyed traveling, camping, sports, the outdoors, reading and the companionship of his family and friends. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Larose. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m..
