The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ================================ May 02. 2005 2:26PM Benoit Tregre A loving husband, devoted father and friend to many, Benoit "Ben" Joseph Tregre, 82, died on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Thibodaux General Hospital. Mr. Tregre was a lifelong resident of Vacherie who was still active in the VFW Post 4245 and Company A. Infantry Division of the 778th Tank Battalion. Ben, a World War II veteran, served his country under the direction of General George Patton's Third Army; received the Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, two Distinguished Service Crosses, the World War II Victory Medal, Eameto Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tex and Katherine Tregre of Cut Off; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Percle of Chackbay, Donald Martin of Gibson, Delane and Ronald Steib, Ramona and Michael Kliebert and Mickey and Glenn Becnel of Vacherie, Gaynell and Matthew Becnel of Thibodaux, Holly and Thomas Becnel of Chackbay. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 13281 La. 644, Vacherie. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace Mausoleum. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Theolaine Ockman Tregre; daughter, Sylvia T. Martin; parents, Vinia and Beronie Tregre, Brothers, Guy, Herbert and Edwin; and sister, Lucy Tregre. Samart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
