She was a charter member of the St. John Alumni Association and a member of the St. John Adult Choir. She is the present treasurer of the St. John Alumni Association and has been for many years. Michael Lebrun, 40, died at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center as a result of a Jan. 12 wreck on La. 308 in Assumption Parish just south of Plattenville, according to a State Police Troop C report. About 5:40 a.m., Shane M. Burnside, 22, of Labadieville, was driving his 1992 Lexus 300 north when he went off the road to the right, and overcorrected when he tried to get back on the highway. Burnside lost control of his car, crossed the center line and was struck on the passenger side by Lebrun, who was driving south in a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck, said the report. Burnside received moderate injuries in the crash. He was wearing his seat belt; Lebrun was not. No other passengers were involved, the report said. Both men were taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Alcohol use is unknown and results from required blood tests are pending. He was united in marriage to Margie Haydel Sept. 13, 1956, making their union together 31 years. To their union two children were born, Denise and Lloyd Jr. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 29, 1945, to April 30, 1955. He was a decorated veteran with several medals, two U.S. Service Medals, two Bronze Service Stars, two Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, an American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and World War II Medal. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He worked for the State of Louisiana as an auto mechanic. After he became ill and unable to stay alone he moved to Missouri to be cared for by his son and family. Larry Weidel, spokesman for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, said he had few details on the wreck other than that two 19-year-old men were in the vehicle and the driver was killed in the crash. The passenger was received moderate injuries in the wreck, which occurred at about 5:40 a.m., Weidel said. Neither of the victims' names has been released. Both men were taken to St. Anne General Hospital in Raceland. Commission duty the next day and reported for active duty at Ft. Sill, Okla. the following day. He served in the European theater with the 5th Armored Division, 47th Field Artillery. He fought in five campaigns: Normandy, Ardennes, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. At one time, he served under Patton's third army and in August 1944 was awarded the Silver Star. Early in 1946, he went to work for Texaco as a petroleum engineer, where he would spend 30 years, mostly in Houma and New Orleans with a short stint in Trinidad, W.I. He lived in Houston for 25 years where he started his own consulting firm, Alexander Petroleum Consultants, and later started Herbert R. Alexander Inc. as an independent oil operator. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and Ellendale Country Club.
