Upon returning safely home from a 33 month tour of duty in the South Pacific during World War II, he began operating T-Man's Grocery and Bar on the banks of his beloved Four Mile Bayou in 1945. He worked alongside his devoted wife, Selma, for nearly 60 years in the family business, serving and entertaining customers, hunters, fishermen, vacationers and generations of local families enjoying the beauty of southern Louisiana. T-Man worked until ill health prevented him from doing so several years ago. His contributions to the community of Four Mile Bayou are numerous and includes providing school transportation via "The School Boat" so that local children could be afforded an education. He was a member of St. Martin Parish School Board during which he was instrumental in the conception, planning and construction of Stephensville Elementary School in 1972. Additionally, he served on St. Martin Parish Water and Sewer Board since 1980, later retiring as president in 2005. He proudly served as a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred Pitre; her second husband, Bertman Pitre; her parents, Asay Desire Guidry and Marie Louise Aycock Guidry; two brothers, Ronald and Donald Guidry; and two sisters, Marie Guidry and Doris Delosia. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Patrick "Floyd" Songe Sr.; three sons, Patrick Songe Jr. and wife, Cheryl, Eric Songe and wife, Kristi, and Ryan Songe and wife, Yvette; one daughter, Monica Chauvin and husband, Todd; one brother, Philip Dupre Jr. and wife, Sandra; five sisters, Bonabel Naquin, Phyllis Duval and husband, Loveless, Geraldine Thomassie and husband, Robert Sr., Margaret Neil and husband, Leland Sr., and Laura Armstrong and husband, John; five grandchildren, Victoria, Lauren and Alexis Songe, and Nicholas and Kaden Chauvin; and a sixth grandchild, Justin Songe, due in December. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Sr. and Mable Duplantis Dupre; one stepbrother, Reggie Dupre Sr.; and an infant sister, Jo Ann Dupre. She was a homemaker and served as a religious coordinator at St. Ann for many years. She was active with Terrebonne Parish Parks and Recreation Department, the Terrebonne Parish School Board and Registrar of Voters. She along with her husband were members of the St. Francis de Sales Cathedral Choir for more than 55 years. She lived a simple life, believing that love is the most important gift of all, a gift to be shared with everyone she met. She dearly loved her faith, her family and her music. She inspired family and friends alike and was a mentor and second mother to many children in the community. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
