She accepted Christ and was baptized at St. Lucy's Catholic Church. She attended St. Lucy's Elementary School and Vandebilt Catholic High School in Houma. She graduated from Xavier University of New Orleans in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and drama. For five years she served as a director of Total Community Action in New Orleans and also taught acting classes throughout various summer programs at Dumas Auditorium in Houma. In these artistic roles, she dedicated herself to helping young adults develop and build self-confidence and encourage creative expressions. For more than 25 years, she worked with the State of Louisiana Office of Family Services helping people overcome problems and make their lives better. In June 2004, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She immediately underwent a radical mastectomy and insisted on victory. She did not lose time lamenting the fact that some doctors had decided her life was over and elected to fight cancer with might. For almost three years, she worked with an expert team of physicians at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and lived a wealthy life. She believed in the power of positive thinking, and many continued to be inspired by her affirming attitude while her soul continued to shine. On March 17, 2007, she crossed over and joined her ancestors. She was 55 years old and had much, much more to give this world. She was an artist, and in her own unique way she was a mentor to all. She was an outstanding mother, a gracious grandmother, a loving sister, a dutiful daughter and a faithful friend. Each of these she always will be. With Agnes' demise we have lost someone we hold dear. What she has left behind, we will cherish all the more still.
