She then worked with the Lafourche Parish Council on Aging. She was a member of Holy Savior Catholic Church for nearly 60 years, serving on the parish council and an Eucharistic minister. She also served as the president of the Mother's Club at Holy Savior Central Catholic High School. Additionally, she was the president of the Lafourche Parish Cancer Society for some 20 years, and was once selected as the citizen of the year for the Town of Lockport. Through the years she also served in numerous other church and social organizations. Most of all however, she was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, friend and health-care professional who was respected and loved by all she touched. We celebrate her life and know that her spirit will remain with us and inspire us forever. She then worked with the Lafourche Parish Council on Aging. She was a member of Holy Savior Catholic Church for nearly 60 years, serving on the parish council and an Eucharistic minister. She also served as the president of the Mother's Club at Holy Savior Central Catholic High School. Additionally, she was the president of the Lafourche Parish Cancer Society for some 20 years, and was once selected as the citizen of the year for the Town of Lockport. Through the years she also served in numerous other church and social organizations. Most of all however, she was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, friend and health-care professional who was respected and loved by all she touched. We celebrate her life and know that her spirit will remain with us and inspire us forever. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Morris Henley of Houma; one son, Glen Henley and wife, Linda, of Marrero; one daughter, Jayme Henley of Houma; five grandchildren, David Henley and wife, Michelle, of Houston, Gavin Poiencot of Houma, Craig Henley and wife, Marie, of Marrero, Darren Henley of Marrero and James Henley of Houma; and five great-grandchildren, Andrea', Gary, Brandon, Jordan and Harley Henley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Archibald Henley and Mayme Scallan Henley; one son, Gary Henley; two grandchildren, Gary L. Henley Jr. and Joshua R. Henley; and two brothers, Claude "Bud" Henley and Richard D. Henley. He was born in Hattiesburg, Miss., raised in Shreveport and lived many years in DeRidder, after moving to Houma in 1959 he and his partners started the Shop-n- Bags. They soon grew into having six stores in Houma and two in Thibodaux. He retired in 1988, but never stopped working. He was an expert carpenter and craftsman and enjoyed many hours "Woodworking" in his shop. He was active in Terrerians Carnival Club and served on the board of directors for many years, and was also a member of the Bass Master Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Dorsey McElroy of Houma; two sons, Fay McElroy Jr. and wife, Patricia, and Daniel McElroy of Houma; six daughters, Melanie Pellegrin and husband, Frank, Norma Theriot and husband, Bill, Mary Matherne and husband, Peter, Elizabeth LeBlanc, Julie Braud and husband, Donnie, of Houma and Annette Fournier and husband, George Jr., of Lafayette; one sister, Mel Sanders of Houma; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in- law, Donna McElroy, one son-in-law, Benny LeBlanc and his angel, Lauren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney James McElroy Sr. and Marie Clothilde Chauvin McElroy; his infant daughter, Alice McElroy; his three brothers, Sidney McElroy Jr., Charles McElroy and Hayes McElroy; one sister, Mildred Duplantis; and one infant sister, Norma McElroy. He was a retired supervisor with Texaco. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1317. He served in the Louisiana National Guard during World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.
