Her passion for music allowed her to sing in the St. Joseph Choir only weeks before her death. She was known as the "mother of twins," having two sets of her own and three sets of grandchildren. He was a fun-filled person that loved his family, friends, country, woodworking, fishing, cooking and gardening. He was the oldest of seven children. His compassion, generosity and love for his family, friends and others in need were an integral part of his warm and wonderful personality. He will be sadly missed by his family who loved him deeply. As a committed volunteer to the Lions Camp for Diabetic Youth, she acted in many capacities before serving as the director of nursing for several years. She encouraged and motivated Louisiana children immeasurably through education and fun. As a Regional Clinical Coordinator with Genentech, she helped educate countless medical professionals about endocrinology and the appropriate use of growth hormones. She previously held pediatric nursing positions at Ochsner Clinic, Children's Hospital and Charity Hospital. She was an active member and past leader in the Southeast Louisiana Association of Diabetes Educators, American Association of Diabetes Educators, Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society, American Diabetes Association New Orleans Chapter, Society of Pediatric Nurses and Endocrine Nursing Society. Among many honors, she was named a "Great 100" by the New Orleans District Nurses Association. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at the family's Grand Isle camp, Delaune's Ace High, which became a retreat for many. She was a wonderful hostess and fabulous cook who loved making people feel welcome. She enjoyed traveling and creating memories with friends and family. Mardi Gras was a favorite time of year. She was an esteemed member of MOMS Carnival Krewe. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Jody; six children, Mark Waggenspack, Mary Karam and husband, George, Beth Ruiz and husband, James, John Waggenspack, Susan Delaune and husband, Warner, and Joan Chastain and husband, Sonny; two brothers and their wives, Laville and Betty Waggenspack and Dr. Clay and Augusta Waggenspack; one sister, Carmel Mask; and 18 beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helene and Clay Waggenspack. He was born in Gonzales and graduated from St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans. He graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge and LSU Medical School in New Orleans. After completing his studies there, he married Jody Harper of Minden. He completed two years of duty in the Air Force in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon completion of his pediatric residency, he moved with his family to Houma in 1961 where he began his private practice in pediatrics until his retirement in January 1996. Throughout his life he had a great love of God and family. As he said on the day he retired, he "wanted to fish, hunt, grow roses and chase his grandchildren." He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He loved sharing his harvest of vegetables and roses with his neighbors, friends and family. A quiet, gentle and humble man, he treated all with kindness and respect. He was involved in many civic and community activities. He served on the Board of Directors at Terrebonne General Hospital, was a volunteer at the Bayou Region Hospice, St. Vincent de Paul pharmacy and served for more than 20 years as the pediatrician at the St. Louis Infant Center. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and retired pediatrician. Her greatest calling was her dedication and commitment to children and their health. As a committed volunteer to the Lions Camp for Diabetic Youth, she acted in many capacities before serving as the director of nursing for several years. She encouraged and motivated Louisiana children immeasurably through education and fun. As a Regional Clinical Coordinator with Genentech, she helped educate countless medical professionals about endocrinology and the appropriate use of growth hormones. She previously held pediatric nursing positions at Ochsner Clinic, Children's Hospital and Charity Hospital. She was an active member and past leader in the Southeast Louisiana Association of Diabetes Educators, American Association of Diabetes Educators, Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society, American Diabetes Association New Orleans Chapter, Society of Pediatric Nurses and Endocrine Nursing Society. Among many honors, she was named a "Great 100" by the New Orleans District Nurses Association. She enjoyed fishing and spending time at the family's Grand Isle camp, Delaune's Ace High, which became a retreat for many. She was a wonderful hostess and fabulous cook who loved making people feel welcome. She enjoyed traveling and creating memories with friends and family. Mardi Gras was a favorite time of year.
