She most recently retired in 2002 as Director of Family Welfare Services for Pointe Coupee Parish, a division of the Louisiana State Department of Health and Human Resources. She was a naturally loving and altruistic person with a special calling to be an enthusiastic volunteer. She enjoyed much service work with St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pointe Coupee Good Neighbors and H.O.P.E. Ministries, among others. In addition, for many of her young adult years, she was an active member of the Mothers Cultural Club of New Roads. While at Loyola, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Kappa social fraternity, Blue Key Honor Society and was elected and served as president of the Loyola Music School. At Loyola he joined ROTC and upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army with the rank of second lieutenant. He was stationed in Giessen, West Germany, where he met and married Heidi, his wife of 43 years. After discharge from the Army he was employed by the Waguespack Insurance Agency which was found by his grandfather, Henry J. Waguespack, in 1911, and was managed by his father, Felix L. Aucoin Jr. He later purchased the agency and served as its president for 22 years. He also served on the Loyola University Alumni Board and was a member of the Independent Agents of Louisiana, Premier Agency Network and NFIB. He loved his family and was a devout Catholic. After ordination, he served as assistant pastor at Holy Cross Parish in Morgan City and then at St. Joseph's Parish in Chauvin. Following these assignments, he assumed the position of Vocations Director, first for the tri-parish area then for the New Orleans Archdiocese. Father Joe served as pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Parish from 1979 to 2001. In retirement, he continued to play an important role in the life of the parish. He will be greatly missed.
