Claire "Peachie" LeBouef Billiu Boudreaux, 70, a native of Houma and resident of 
Hammond, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church, with 
burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Mark S. Billiu of Houma; two daughters, Lauren B. 
Duplantis of Houma and Amy E. Billiu of Hammond; three grandsons, Brandon P. 
Duplantis and wife, Tiffany, of Houma, Luke B. Billiu of Bayou Blue and Hunter 
M. Billiu, in the U.S. Navy; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Evan 
Duplantis; her mother, Pearl P. LeBouef of Houma; one sister, Christine L. 
Sullivan and husband, Daniel "Buddy" Sullivan; and one brother, Bernard "Tommy" 
LeBouef and wife, Susan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 30 years, Donald J. "Chumpy" 
Billiu, father of her children; her father, Clay Bernard LeBouef; her paternal 
grandparents, George Peter LeBouef and Bertha Bernard LeBouef; and her maternal 
grandparents, Augustan Pitre and wife, Clara Pitre.

She was a member of the Terrebonne Art Guild, Terrebonne Historical and Cultural 
Society, Hammond Cultural Foundation, Hammond Art Guild and the Sunshine Ladies.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted to her family and love of 
painting and floral design.

Lolita C. Champagne, 84, a native and resident of Raceland, died Monday, Sept. 
8, 2008.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Nativity Catholic Church 
in Raceland, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Champagne; two daughters, Judy C. Portier 
and Deborah C. Guidry; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three 
step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Eva C. Foret Champagne; three 
brothers, Clarence Foret, Nolan Chiasson and Ira Chiasson; and three sisters, 
Irene Grabert, Virginia Fortmayer and Genevine Dufrene.

She was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Mary's Nativity Catholic Church.

and stepmother, Deborah Guidry, and Melanie Boudreaux and stepfather, Keith 
Boudreaux; one stepson, Dre'LeBlanc; two stepbrothers, Marvin Terrebonne Jr. and 
Cody Boudreaux; one sister, Heidi White and husband, Curtis White; two 
stepsisters, Amber and Taylor Boudreaux; his grandparents, Molly Savoie, Anse 
and Betty Guidry; his great-grandmother, Hazel Bourgeois; his nephew, Luke 
White; his niece, Briannah White; his step nephews, Taton Little and Ethan 
Dufrene; his step nieces, Andris Terrebonne and Anjeleigh Terrebonne; and his 
godchild Colbie Guidry.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Norman Savoie; and his great-
grandfather, Leon Bourgeois.

He enjoyed working out, fishing, hunting and dogs.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.

William Maltman

William "Bill" Maltman, 66, a native of Delaware, Penn., and resident of Houma, 
died in Pasadena, Texas, Monday, Sept. 8, 2008.

A time of remembrance and reflection will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 
visitation from 8 a.m. to funeral time Friday at Hargrave Funeral Home. East St. 
Mary Veterans Funeral Squad will conduct Military Honors at 7 p.m. today at the 
funeral home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, 
with interment in Holy Rosary Mausoleum in Houma.

He is survived by his lovingly devoted wife of 37 years, Febronia Riveria 
Maltman of Houma; two sons, Mike Chapa of Houma and Edwin Halford of Sweet 
Water, Texas; one daughter, Susan Bergeron of Covington; one brother, Douglas 
Maltman of San Diego; one sister, Pat Blaine of San Diego; seven grandchildren, 
Shawn Chapa, Shantelle McDaniel, Rachelle Chapa, Michelle Bergeron, Elyse 
Bergeron, Robert Halford and Scott Halford; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elaine Maltman; and one son, 
Bobby Walker.

Bill will long be remembered as a devoted family man who was always there to do 
whatever his family needed, with a kind word of advice and a strong hand of 
guidance. He loved his family and would absolutely do anything for them.

He started his working life in the U.S. Navy as a Frog Man, now know as a Navy 
Seal, which few would debate is the toughest and beyond any stretch of the 
imagination the most grueling and mentally challenging training that one could 
go through, only the best survive.

He was among the few men that were called Navy Seals. After serving his country, 
he worked for Jay Ray McDermott as a commercial diver. After 25 years he retired 
and became a diving consultant.

He was a Master Mason and a member of The Sherrard Byrd Lodge No. 353 F&AM in 
Poplarville, Miss.

Champagne, Mathew Champagne, Whitney Crossland and Amy Brown; and three great-
grandchildren, Ariel, L.J. and Rylee Ann Pitre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Lee Fournier Pitre; his parents, 
Ashful Pitre and Inez Thibodeaux Pitre; and one sister, Barbara Bonvillain.

He was a retired rig supervisor with Houtech and a U.S. Navy World War II 
veteran.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Marine Corps League and Woodmen of the World.

He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

James "Jim" Smith, 52, a native of Conroe, Texas, and resident of Cleveland, 
Texas, died after a five-year battle with cancer Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, 
with burial in Montague Cemetery in Cleveland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Smith; two daughters, Andrea Eoff and 
husband, Brian, and Jessica Long and husband, Joshua; four grandchildren, Sydney 
Long, Elliot Long, Violet Long and James Eoff; one sister, Carla Graham and 
husband, Kyle; two nieces, Erin Graham and Emily Graham; and other treasured 
family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Helen Smith.

Jim and his older sister, Carla Smith Graham, grew up in Cleveland/Coldspring 
area, and Jim graduated from Cleveland High School in 1974. Jim went on to 
attend Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and Oral Roberts University in 
Tulsa, Okla. He married Sherry Cardenas Smith in 1978 and they raised two 
daughters during their 30-year marriage.

Jim worked in the natural gas industry for 28 years, beginning his career as a 
maintenance worker at the Tennessee Gas Pipeline compressor station in Cleveland 
in 1980 and ending it in as operations manager for the Gulf Coast Division of 
the El Paso Corporation in Houma in 2008.

In addition to enjoying his work and family, Jim loved serving the Lord. He 
accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1974, and lived the rest of his life as a 
dedicated and uncompromising Christian. In the final days before his death, Jim 
wanted the message of his life to be "Live for God." He said in all things, good 
and bad, the most rewarding life is a life lived for the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Sidonia Thibodaux 
Thibodeaux; one son, Michael Thibodeaux; one daughter, Amy Stienacker; two 
brothers, Hector Thibodeaux Sr. and Eunice "Robe" Thibodeaux; four sisters, 
Corraine Tabor, Velma Boudreaux, Edna Farbe and Henrettia Songe; and two sons-
in-law.

He worked for Scrogin, Chromally, Delta Iron Works and Delta Shipyard and was 
dock master for the gas freeing plant. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran 
who served in France and Germany.

He was a hunter and fisherman.

He served the St. James Parish School System in many ways, as a teacher, coach,
principal, supervisor and superintendent. In 1988, he retired as superintendent 
of St. James Parish Schools and then served as the principal of the St. James 
Parish Detention Center, where he retired in 2000.

He was a lifetime pipeliner, starting his career as a welder in 1953. He moved 
intooperations and stopped consultant work only when his health made it no 
longer possible in April of this year.

He and his best friend and mother of his children, Marjorie Marie Cook Cruise, 
lived in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North 
Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin and 
Washington. In addition, the couple traveled to and lived in Brazil, Holland, 
England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia and Dubai, where he provided 
consultant services for various entities.

He was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church in Liberty and a member of Liberty
Masonic Lodge.

He was a well-respected individual and considered being a man of great integrity 
in the oilfield industry and in his personal life. He will be fondly remembered 
but sadly missed by his family, friends and work colleagues.

Pallbearers will be Randy Piazza, Cleve Coulon, Gordon "45" Davis, Clarence
Abshire, Paul Byington and Randall "Lank" Blanchard. Honorary pallbearers will

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emile Martin and Avida Bourg Martin;
her foster parents, Emile Lauland and Eloise Martin Lauland; three brothers, 
Jeffery Martin, Emile Martin and Brownell Lauland; and three sisters, Mable 
Bergeron, Cyrelia Prejean and Mildred Martin.

She was former waitress and owner of Marie's Restaurant in Napoleonville.

The family would like to give special thanks to Heritage Manor of Houma, for all 
the good care and Hospice of St. Catherine. Thanks to all the nurses and aids 
who took good care of her. She loved to paint and garden. She was a good and 
kind mother always there for us children. She owned several restaurants in
Napoleonville.

grandchildren, Caitlin, Grace and Christopher Codd, of Severna Park, as well as 
many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christie Morrison, in 2004, as well 
as her four brothers, Magel, Glen, Lloyd and Ronald Pellegrin; her sister, 
Jeannette Daigle; and her parents, Lowell and Evela Pellegrin.

She graduated from Terrebonne High School and later attended Nicholls College in 
Thibodaux, a junior campus of Louisiana State University. She worked as a 
receptionist for the Louisiana State Department of Labor. She married her 
husband, in 1950. Prior to moving to Severna Park more than 20 years ago to be 
closer to her grandchildren, she and her husband resided in Houma and New 
Orleans.

Gladys Hebert Gros, 92, a native and resident of Thibodaux, died at 12:05 p.m. 
Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Genevieve Catholic 
Church in Thibodaux. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial 
in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Tackett and husband, Timothy, 
Joyce Deichmann and husband, C.J., and Mary Ann Richard; five brothers, Raymond, 
Alton, Herman, Gerald and Larry Hebert; one sister, Rita Clement; 16 
grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wickless Gros; her parents, Elphege 
and Modeste Hebert; one son, Whitney Gros; one daughter, Maxine Giardina; one 
brother, Elphege "Posh" Hebert; one sister, Irene Clement; one son-in-law, 
Gillis Richard Jr., one daughter-in-law, Carrie S. Gros; and one great-
grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer 
Society.

Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Francis "Buddy Boy" Toups Jr., 53, a native of New Orleans and resident of 
Houma, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time 
Tuesday at Samart Funeral Home of Houma. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. 
Tuesday at the funeral home with burial in Rogers Cemetery in Houma.

He is survived by his parents, Francis and Loretta Toups; three brothers, E.J. 
Toups and companion Bertha, Daniel Toups and Richard Toups and wife Vera; nine 
sisters, Barbara Toups, Patricia Duplantis, Wanda Pitre and husband Stevie, 
Roberta Connelly and husband Robert, Loretta Puckett and husband James, Gail 
Naquin and husband Evans, Mary Toups and companion Kelvin, Caroline Neil and 
husband Don, Samantha Delahoussaye and husband Todd; Miss Kitty, his cat, 
numerous nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Trent Michael Toups.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evans J. and Lillian Toups and 
Robert C. and Lorena Williams; and one nephew, Charles "C.D." Conelly.

Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
