After graduating from Bennett High School, Dr. Smith attended the University of Buffalo and received his Bachelor of Arts on 1962 and his Master of Science in 1965. From Buffalo, Dr. Smith received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia and continued on to receive a Master of Engineering from Harvard University. As a medical doctor, Dr. Smith trained as a pediatrician, general psychiatrist and as a child psychiatrist. He maintained board certifications in all three disciplines. His varied experiences included stints at BryLin Hospital in Buffalo, Erie County Health Department, U.S. Army Medical Corps, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Institute of Living in Hartford. His last experience was working for the State of Louisiana at the Terrebonne Mental Health Center in Houma where he worked for disadvantaged youth of Terrebonne Parish and impacted both his patients and co- workers. She is survived by her mother, Hazel Brumfield of Houma; three sons, Stanley Brumfield, Ardian Williams and Avis Williams, all of Houma; three daughters, Monica Brumfield, Marie Williams and Angela Lyons and husband, Lee, all of Houma; five brothers, James Brumfield of Houma, Johnnie Brumfield Jr. of Baton Rouge, Cleveland Smith and Benjamin Brumfield and wife, Bridgette, of McComb, Miss., and Joseph Brumfield of Magnolia, Miss.; seven sisters, Janice Sneeze, Carolyn Brumfield and Bernita Brumfield, all of Houma, Gloria Brumfield of Magnolia, Patricia Scott and husband, Johnny, Sheila Pittman and husband, Larry, and Julia Ann Hampton and husband, Dennis, all of McComb; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Torregano; her father, Johnnie Brumfield; and one brother, Johnnie Leon Brumfield. She was a homemaker and was Baptist.
