Broussard, Jr. of Bastrop, La., David Broussard of Dallas, and Dr. Richard Broussard of Lafayette; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Whitney; her parents, Ernest and Mary Torr Ellender; one sister, Ellen Walker; one brother, Dr. Ernest Ellender; and grandson, David Allen McCall. Mrs. Broussard was born October 11, 1914 in Bourg and lived in Lake Charles since 1969. She was a graduate of Terrebonne High School and received her degree in Home Economics in 1936 from Louisiana Normal College, now Northwestern State University. She started teaching as the Home Economics teacher in Creole and boarded in the home of Numa and Helen Broussard, the parents of her future husband, Whitney. They were married on Dec. 29, 1936. Mrs. Broussard taught two years then began her family of eight children. They moved to Lake Charles in 1969. and she was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and Ladies Altar Society. Along with her family, she moved to Grand Isle at 2 years old and remained a resident of the island until her death. She loved animals, especially dogs and Gary's horse Jimbo. She was a homemaker most of her married life, only briefly working outside the home. She was a loyal, loving, devoted and doting wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, godmother, aunt and friend. She whole-heartedly believed and trusted in her God and her Catholic faith. She will be greatly missed and always remembered.
