Bessy Lee Chauvin Barrow, 91, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Tuesday, 
December 30, 2008.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Barrow Guidry; sisters, Ethel Coffman 
and Frances Brien; two grandchildren, Brandy Spencer Bernard and Caleb Barrow 
Spencer; and great-grandchild, Nicholas Allen Bernard.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Nicholas Barrow; parents, Argus Chauvin 
and Meloie Savoie Chauvin; brothers, Howard Chauvin and Ollen Chauvin; and 
sisters, Della Usie, Jeanne Chauvin and Nurvy Chauvin.

She was a homemaker and parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, at St. Louis Catholic 
Church. Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial at the church 
cemetery.

Lawrence (Lan) Phillip Billiot, 61, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and a 
resident of Houma, La., died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11:34 p.m.

He is survived by his companion, Leah Verdin; brother, Adam Billiot; and twin 
sister, Lois Guidroz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julliene Verdin Billiot; 
brothers, Roger, John and Antoine; and sisters, Alma Luke, Eva Terrebonne, 
Juliete and Lillian Billiot and Marie Billiot.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, January 2, at Falgout Funeral Home 
in Galliano, La. A religious service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral

Willie Bonvillain Jr., 75, a native and resident of Terrebonne Parish, La., died 
Thursday, December 25, 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Trahan Bonvillain; six sons, Rev. Willie 
Bonvillain and wife Barbara, Michael Bonvillain and wife Yolanda, Rev. Grant 
Bonvillain and wife Airlyn, Barnard Bonvillain and wife Troy, Craig Bonvillain 
and wife Ann, and Kirby Bonvillain and wife Tanga; four daughters, Rose Howard 
and husband Bobby, JoAnn Maryland and husband Kennie, Demetria Maryland and 
husband Gregory, and Suzette Johnson and husband Johnny, all of Houma, La.; two 
brothers, James Bonvillain and wife Joyce, and Paul Bonvillain and friend 
Patricia; four sisters, Emma Ann Bonvillain, Mary Nixon, Delores Johnson and 
husband Nilo, and Dorothy Stevenson all of Houma; four sisters-in-law, Viola 
Bonvillain, Mary Williams and husband Adrian, Deleria Stovall and husband 
Roosevelt, and Barbara Boseman and husband Lloyd; four brothers-in-law, Roy 
Norman, Clarence Trahan and wife Nettie, Leonard Trahan and wife Rosalie, 
Clifton Trahan and wife Josie; 35 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four 
godsons, Nilo Johnson Jr., Kenneth Pledger, Matthew Clay and Joseph Harding Jr.; 
and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Emma Bonvillain; one 
daughter, Theresa Bonvillain; one grandson, Gregory Maryland Jr.; three 
brothers, Albert Bonvillain, Earl Bonvillain and Harry Bonvillain; four sisters, 
Joyce B. LeBeouf, Florence Bell B. Williams, Leola Mae Torrey and Ora-Mae B. 
Norman; two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline B. Bonvillain and Beverly B. Bonvillain; 
and three brothers-in-law, Thomas William, Elmon Torrey and Chester Nixon.

He was chairman of the Terrebonne Parish Council on Aging, Terrebonne Parish 
Housing Authority, and the Grand Caillou Fire Department. He also was on the 
board of directors of Morning Star Baptist Church where he served as the church 
treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the Oasis Social 
Pleasure Club.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, January 2, at Howard Third Zion 
Travelers Baptist Church with a wake service to follow from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The 
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3 at the church with burial 
at Holy Family Catholic Church Cemetery.

Dorothy "Ms. Dot" Boudwin, 56, a native of Lafourche Parish, La., and a resident 
of Dulac, La., died Monday, December 29, 2008.

She is survived by her husband, Patric John Boudwin Sr.; two sons, Patric John 
Boudwin Jr. and wife Kelly, and Keith John Boudwin and wife Sabrina; one 
daughter, Christal LaCoste and husband Melvin Jr.; two brothers, Joseph Matherne 
and Carrol Toups; six grandchildren, Brittany Boudwin, Skyla LaCoste, Derrick 
LaCoste, Kristen Boudwin, Dustin Boudwin and Jenae Boudwin; one great-
grandchild, Daten John Boudwin; four brothers-in-law, Billy Ray Sr., Jewel

Eulah Gautreaux Cadiere, 81, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Sunday 
December 28, 2008 at 6:24 p.m.

She is survived by her daughters, Frances Tivet and husband Donald, Carol 
Bergeron and husband Carroll, and Brenda Henry and husband Bruce; sons, Johnny 
Cadiere and wife Susan, Larry Cadiere and wife Sherrie, and Alan Cadiere and 
companion Amanda Wilson; sisters, Beulah Darcey and Gloria Bergeron; brothers, 
Lawrence Gautreaux Jr. and Leroy Gautreaux; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey J. Cadiere; parents, Lawrence 
Gautreaux and Clothilde Boudreaux Gautreaux; and sister, Betty G. Triche Pitre.

She was a homemaker and parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was a 
member of the East Park Ladies Auxiliary and the Holy Rosary Altar Society. She 
was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed reading and playing 
scrabble

She was buried at Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Dwain "Hog" Carrell, 55, a native of Ashdown, Ar., and a resident of Cut Off, 
La., died Friday, December 26, 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Carrell; his mother, Dorothy Johnston Carrell; 
one son, Matthew Carrell; one daughter, Heather Carrell Cantrelle; three 
brothers, Kenneth Carrell, Danny Carrell and Guy Carrell; one sister, Joy

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Carrell.

Gertie Mae Cheivers, 78, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Sunday, 
December 28.

She is survived by six daughters, Mary Ann Campbell and husband John Sr., 
Elizabeth Duncan, Janice Duncan, Catherine Woods, Barbara Duncan and Betty 
Duncan Jackson and husband Herbert Lee all of Thibodaux; five sons, Roy Duncan 
and wife Linda, Bernard Duncan, Larry Duncan and wife Eliza, Gerald Duncan and 
Jeffrey Duncan and wife Minda all of Thibodaux; 48 grandchildren; 47 great-
grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, David Duncan Jr., and second 
husband, Herbert Cheivers; parents, Easter and James Sargent; two sons, Herbert 
"Duna" Duncan and Lionel Duncan; and one sister, Rosetta Victor.

She was a member of Moses Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board. She 
enjoyed cooking and going to church. .

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Moses Baptist 
Church in Thibodaux with a religious service to follow. Burial will be at the 
church cemetery.

Errol Joseph Chenier Sr., 61, a resident of Schriever, La., and a native of 
Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, December 28, 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Kirkland Chenier; son, Errol "E.J." 
Chenier Jr. and wife Kasilyn; two daughters, Celeste Ledet and husband Fred; 
Tiffany Scott and friend Malcolm Cortez; sister-in-law, Linda Rodrigue; brother-
in-law, Randry Rodrigue; life-long friend, Claiborne "C.J." Oncale; 
grandchildren, Colby Chenier, Karleigh Scott, Harlyn Scott, Taylor Chenier, 
Harrison Ledet, Lorre Ledet, Tyler Chenier and Tagen Chenier; and eight 
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Tessie Chiasson Chenier.

Sincere thanks to the doctors and staff at UAMS in Little Rock, Ark., for their 
professional guidance, care and support through his long fought battle with 
multiple myeloma.

Gloria Dine Davis, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, 
December 27.

She is survived by one daughter, Kena Davis Simmons and husband Barney Craig 
Simmons of Thibodaux; stepdaughter, Marion Rounds of Thibodaux; one sister, 
Willie Mae Walker of Thibodaux; two brothers, Leonard Rounds and James Anderson 
Jr. of Thibodaux; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mable Rounds and Roscoe Van Buren; one 
son, Adrion Davis; grandchild, Katelyn Simmons; and grandparents, Agnes Rounds 
and Allen Rounds.

She was Methodist and a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church. Her hobbies 
included sewing.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Magnolia United 
Methodist Church on Johnson Ridge. A religious service will be at 11 a.m. 
Saturday at 11:00am at the church with burial at Blue Lilly Cemetery on Johnson

Trahan, Gayle Fonseca Granger and Beatrice Fonseca Boudreaux; sister, Ruby

grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Fonseca; parents, Amadeo Hebert 
and Marcelline Marcel Hebert; daughter, Lorena Fonseca Trahan; two brothers, 
Percey and Howard Hebert; and four grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a parishioner at Maria Immacolata Church.

Hanzy; two daughters, LaShonda Hanzy and Ebony Hanzy; four sisters, Louise 
Joseph, Annie Mae Johnson, Annie Lee Pratt and Orelia Turner; five brothers,

Henrietta "Noon" Martinez Richard, 97, a native and resident of Labadieville, 
La., died at 4:23 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008.

She is survived by her daughters, Rena and husband Resley Boudreaux, Winnie and 
husband Pete Boudreaux, Kitty and husband Walter Simoneaux and Martha Landry, 
all of Labadieville, Nora Latiolais of Metaire, La., Jean and husband Jimmy 
Chauvin of Chacahoula, La. and Brenda and her husband Henry Landry of Baton 
Rouge, La.; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hanley Richard; parents, Alphonse and 
Alice Guillot Martinez; daughter, O'Linda Medine; sons-in-law, Bunnell Medine 
Sr., Clifford Latiolas and Ronald LeBlanc; brother, Gabriel Martinez; and 
sisters, Esma Arcement, Daisy Martinez, Alice Blanchard, Lucille LaNormand and 
Juliette Adams.

She was a member of St. Philomena Church in Labadieville.

Quincy "Q" Lee Scott, 29, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Friday, 
December 26, 2008.

He is survived by his children, Cyncere Scott of Raceland, Qundalen Scott of 
Thibodaux, La., Ty'Ron Alexander of Boutte, La., Leah Trimble of Baton Rouge, 
La., Malay Sia McCoy of Hahnville, La., and seven additional children; five 
brothers, Darrin Molaison and wife Christy, Mark Molaison, Tim Molaison, Michael 
Molaison and Christopher Gaudet and wife Ebony, all of Raceland; and one sister, 
Karen and husband Willie Harris Jr. of Raceland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Jenelle Scott; grandparents, 
Delta Quatrevigent, Otha Gaudet, Elizabeth McIntyre and Bobbie Scott.

He was Baptist and his hobbies included fishing and hunting.

Barbara Braud Talbot

Barbara Braud Talbot, 82, a native of Thibodaux, La., and a resident of 
Napoleonville, La., died peacefully at home with her children by her side 
Monday, December 29, 2008 at 6:12 p.m.

She is survived by her son, Aubert D. Jr. and wife Sue Talbot of Napoleonville; 
three daughters, Sherryl Talbot and Bobby Simoneaux, Gayle Talbot and Wayne 
Boudreaux, and Stacey Talbot and Jonathan Comeaux, all of Napoleonville; son-in-
law, Michael J. Small and wife Rosalyn of Napoleonville; sister, Kathleen Braud 
Neubauer of Lafayette, La.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubert "Bert" Talbot; her parents, 
Maurice "Brother" Braud Jr. and Lucille Breaux Braud; and daughter, Bobbie Lee 
Talbot Small.

In 1944, she graduated from Thibodaux High School and then moved to Lafayette, 
where she attended S.L.I., now known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette. 
She was married to "Bert" Talbot in 1948 and lived in Baton Rouge, La., until 
she graduated from LSU Law School. They moved to Napoleonville where they raised 
five children. She will be remembered as a loving mother and devoted housewife. 
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed being at home in her kitchen entertaining 
friends and family.

She was buried at St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery in Napoleonville.

Kenneth Joseph Becnel

Kenneth Joseph Becnel, 62, a native and resident of Vacherie, La., died 
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 8:33 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Granier Becnel; mother, Laura deBautte Becnel; 
son, Shane M. Becnel; daughter, Courtney Becnel Miller; brothers, Francis 
"Butsy" and Kevin Becnel; sisters, Laural Ann Benoit, Barbara Babin and Melanie 
Boudreaux; and grandchildren, Tristan and Meah Becnel.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francois Joseph Becnel.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict as Sergeant E-5. 
He was awarded three Purple Heart medals. He retired from Dow Chemical after 32 
years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church 
in Vacherie.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Our Lady of 
Peace Catholic Church. A military service will be at 9:30 a.m. with mass to 
follow.

Helouise Hanzy Douglas, 70, a native of Gibson, La., and a resident of Houma, 
La., died Sunday, December 28, at 7:10 p.m.

She is survived by her son, Darius Jehan Douglas; daughters, Darlene Douglas 
Player and Dominque K. Douglas; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Douglas Sr.; parents, Oliver and 
Louise Hanzy; son, Nolan Douglas Jr.; and sister, Floretta Hanzy Nisby.

She was Baptist and a member of New Rising Sun Baptist Church where she served 
on the Pastor Aide Committee. She was retired from the Terrebonne Parish School 
Board

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 3 at New Rising Sun 
Baptist Church with the funeral services to follow. Burial will be at New Rising 
Sun Baptist Church Cemetery.

Georgia Robbins Smith, 75, a native of Ellendale, La., and a resident of Houma, 
La., died in an automobile accident Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:31 a.m.

She is survived by her sons, Broderick Smith and Elliot Lewis; daughters, Devie 
Smith, Alice S. Murray and Margaret S. Cage; brother, Joe Robbins; sister, Hazel 
R. Theriot; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam "Boo" Smith; parents, Martha 
Jackson Robbins and Silas Robbins; and sister, Nell Crawford.

She was Baptist and a member of First Corinthian Baptist Church where she was a 
faithful choir member. She enjoyed cooking, singing, spending time with family 
and visiting the sick and elderly. She was a retired cook with the Terrebonne 
Parish School Board and a foster grandparent volunteer.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 4, at Community Funeral 
Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, January 5, at Living Gospel 
Church.

Mary Lynn Millet Bernard, 65, a lifelong resident of Houma, La., passed away at 
3:05 a.m. Sunday, January 4, following a long and valiant struggle with cancer.

She leaves behind her husband of almost 42 years, Philippe G. Bernard; two 
daughters, Deidre Ann Bernard Richard and Nicole Marie Bernard Lirette; four 
grandchildren, William "Billy" Edward Lirette, Danielle Elizabeth Richard, 
Tanner Allen Richard, and Donnie Gerald Lirette; one brother, Eugene E. "Jackie" 
Millet and wife Paula Wyle Millet of White, Ga., two sons-in-law, Tyler Allen 
Richard and Eric John Lirette of Houma; one brother-in-law and wife C.J. and 
Millie Landry Bernard of Baton Rouge, La.; and one sister-in-law, Mary Joan 
Bernard of Baton Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Norma Chauvin Millet; and her 
in-laws, C.J. and Olita Bourque Bernard of Thibodaux, La.

She was a retired Terrebonne Parish school teacher having served on the 
faculties of Legion Park and Village East Elementary Schools. Respected and 
admired by former students and faculty, she touched the hearts of many who were 
fortunate to work alongside her and who received her heart-felt guidance and 
instruction as students. She was a friend to all and won numerous achievement 
and performance awards throughout her lifetime. The last of those awards came in 
2001 when she became the co-recipient of the NAACP President's award given to 
her by Jerome Boykin, President of the local NAACP chapter. Jerome described her 
accurately: "She was a surrogate mom to us all." She was color-blind and 
insisted on judging people by their character alone. She will be sadly missed by 
all who knew her, especially her close friends and family.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the 
Terrebonne Parish Library system in her honor. The library is able to purchase 
books that will memorialize her life and spirit in perpetuity. The family will 
suggest to the library those books that may pertain to her interests.

Visitation will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, with the Holy Rosary 
being said at 8:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Chauvin 
Funeral Home's Chapel. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday.

Early "Bro" Williams, 70, a native of Paincourtville, La., and a resident of 
Labadieville, La., died at Audubon Guest House in Thibodaux, La., Friday, 
January 2.

He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Benjamin of Conroe, Tx., and Sheila 
Williams of Labadieville; three sons and spouses, Clyde and Maxine Williams of 
Thibodaux, Joseph and Sheila Williams of Labadieville and Randy and Diedra 
Williams of Denton, Tx.; two sisters, Maggie Caldwell and Noelie Rodrigue of 
Donaldsonville, La.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous 
relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Williams; his parents, Leonard and 
Elvira Williams; three sisters; and two brothers.

He was a retired truck driver.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, at New Belmont Baptist 
Church in Labadieville with a religious service to follow. Burial will be at the

Marion Boudreaux Cunningham, 85, a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of 
Houma, La., died Tuesday, January 6.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Stephen Cunningham; sons, 
Charles Stephen Cunningham Jr. of Houma and Myles Cunningham and wife Gail 
Talbot of Houma; grandchildren, Courtney Cunningham Thigpen and husband Scott 
Thigpen and Katie Cunningham; and great-grandchildren, Madison Cunningham and 
Brooklyn Thigpen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clovis Fabius Boudreaux and Clara

She was retired from Rich's Department Store where she sold antiques.

great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Rouse and Esther Cowart Rouse;

Thomas.

She was a homemaker and a receptionist. She volunteered as a librarian and was a 
volunteer at and member of First Baptist Church of Houma.

was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout 
leader. She enjoyed raising kids, visiting, traveling, talking, eating and 
meeting new people.

Rosary Catholic Church in Larose with mass to follow. Burial will be at the

Scott Naquin, 44, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Wednesday, 
January 7.

He is survived by his mom, June Shaw and her companion Bob Breaux; brothers, Al 
Naquin and wife Sharon, and Nolan Naquin and wife Becky; sisters, Dawn Naquin 
and companion Allison Fakier, and Debra Blanchard and husband Michael; 
grandmother, Nora T. Shaw; his companion, Janie Chiasson; beloved dogs, Sam and 
Fred; and nieces and nephews, Blair Naquin, Dylan and Ryan Blanchard and Parker, 
Brooke, Caroline and Claire Naquin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Naquin; and grandparents, Al Shaw 
and Nolan and Isabelle Naquin.

Scott was well loved by his mom, Bob Breaux, grandmother, brothers, sisters, 
Janie Chiasson, family and a host of others. Scott will be remembered for his 
tremendous generosity and compassion. He loved to hunt and fish starting at a 
young age. His successful business ventures enabled him to spend recreational 
time in his boat or in a deer stand. We will miss him dearly. Scott is probably 
painting the entrance to heaven to prepare a way for Mam Mam Shaw.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, at St. Thomas Aquinas 
Church on the Nicholls State University Campus. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday

Irvin John Kelly Jr., 88, a native of Arthur, Tx., and a resident of Houma, La., 
died Saturday, January 10.

He survived by his wife, Marjorie Mae Bourdier Kelly; brother, Vernon Kelly; 
children, Irvin John Kelly, III, Nina Kelly Avant and Timothy Paul Kelly; step-
children, Curtis John Bourdier, III, Craig James Bourdier and Kim Matthew 
Bourdier; grandchildren, Barry James Cooper Jr., Wendy Cooper Scott and Ketti 
Kelly Babin; step-grandchildren, Marshall Bourdier, Aimee Bourdier, Jason

He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin John Kelly Sr. and mother, Melanie 
Celeste Rodrigue Kelly; brothers, Noel Victor Kelly and Carl Patrick Kelly; and 
sister, Eulalie Kelly.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II from August 7, 1941 until 
July 17, 1945 with an honorable discharge as Corporal. During his tenure Mr. 
Kelly landed on the following islands in the Pacific: Tulagi, Tarawa, Saipan, 
Guam and Guado Canal receiving the Purple Heart. During his lifetime Mr. Kelly 
had numerous interests and served various organizations including the United 
Veterans league, 32nd Degree Mason, Veterans League of America, Houma Regional 
Military Museum, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Terreanians 
Carnival Club as the captain of the Krewe for many years. His work years 
included Terrebonne Motors, Texaco Oil Co., owner of Kelly's Texaco Station, 
Kelly's Photography, and Railroad Detective post W.W. II. He had a varied amount 
of interests throughout is life including photography, oil painting, wood 
working, music, football and politics. He was Catholic and a parishioner of St. 
Francis de Sales Church.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Regional Military Museum of 
Houma.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at Chauvin Funeral

He graduated from E.D. White Catholic High School in 1971 and was recently 
honored as a member of the 1968 and 1969 State Championship football teams. He 
was an outstanding electrician, being trained by his father, and he began his 
career with Gaubert & Gros Electrical Contractors. He was proudly employed by 
National Oilwell Varco, formerly Welch Sales & Service Inc. of Larose, La., 
since 1996. He also helped wire numerous homes for Habitat for Humanity.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and loved to have a 
seafood boil or to shuck and eat oysters. In October, he visited his favorite 
vacation spot, Disney World, with his family and in November he enjoyed a week-
long deer hunting trip near Austin, Tx., with his sister and nephews. He will be 
missed and loved by all who knew him.

Bridgewater, Delsynn Bridgewater and Katrita Bridgewater, all of Houma; three 
brothers, Lionel M. Bridgewater Jr. of New Orleans, Bertrand Bridgewater of 
California and Kelroy Bridgewater of Texas; five sisters, Burnegene Wilson 
Frederick of New Orleans, Loria Little of Houma, Danyelle Hendersshot of Texas, 
Nique Carter and Roxann Bridgewater of Houma; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Marva Bridgewater; two brothers,

lifting, video games and computers.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Sam Schifani; her

Schifani.

She was a devout and faithful member of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. In her earlier

Third Order of Mary. She never wavered in her faith and was kind and generous to 
her family and her community. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She 
will always be remembered around town for her pleasant smile and encouraging 
words.

Charleston D. Picou Sr.

Charleston D. Picou Sr., 83, a native of Thibodaux, La., and a resident of 
Patterson, La., died at his home Saturday, January 24, at 1:30 a.m.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cleo Romagosa Picou; sons, Charleston 
Jr. and wife Elaine Sons Picou, Timothy and wife Carrie Boyse Picou, and Brian 
and wife Mollie Naquin Picou; grandchildren, Charleston James, Charleston David 
III, Sabrina Picou Taquino and Courtney Picou; and great-grandchild, Ryan Picou.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Picou and Rosa Naquin Picou; 
sisters, Laura Mae P. Coignet, Rosalie P. Mire, Louise P. Ber and Jeanne P. 
Lasseigne; and brother, Floyd Picou.

He was born in Thibodaux on Nov. 27, 1925, and attended school at Mount Carmel 
Convent and Thibodaux College. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps 
serving in the Pacific Theater at both the Battle of Guam and the Battle of 
Okinawa. He married Cleo Mary Romagosa on Aug. 8, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic 
Church while on leave from the Marine Corps. He worked at his father's business, 
Picou's Hardware, as a clerk and delivery man after his honorable discharge from 
the Corps. In 1947, he was employed by Coco-Cola Bottling Co. at the Thibodaux 
plant as a route salesman and later promoted to manager of the vending 
department and Post Mix and Pre Mix, supervising 14 employees. He retired in 
1988.He was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5097 and a 
member of the Lafourche Detachment of the Marine Corps League where he served as 
vice commandant and then commandant. He volunteered as an usher at St. Joseph 
Co-Cathedral for many years and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus 
Council No. 1114.

the Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America and Anawin.

Manuel J. Foret, 80, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Tuesday, 
January 27.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Adams Foret; sons, Glenn J. Foret and wife 
Gwen of Baton Rouge, La., and Keith J. Foret of Jacksonville, Fl.; daughter, 
Trudy A. Foret of Raceland; sisters, Rena F. Falgout and Effie F. Utlser; and

Freddie Joseph Griffin Sr., 80, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and a resident 
of Cut Off, La., died Tuesday, January 27.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorena Pierce Griffin; sons, Lon Joseph 
Griffin and wife Liz, Wallace James Griffin and wife Lettie, and Sean John 
Griffin and wife Rena; brothers, Abraham Griffin, Jarvis Griffin, Ronald Griffin

William M. "Bill" Bush Sr.

William M. "Bill" Bush Sr., 82, a native of Lafayette, La., and a resident of 
Thibodaux, La., left this world peacefully in the arms of his Savior Jesus 
Christ Tuesday, January 27.

He is survived by his wife, Rayetta Bush; sons, Bill Bush Jr. and wife Brenda, 
Mike Bush and wife Pam, and Chris Bush and wife Kelley; daughters, Becky 
Melancon, Bonnie Craft and husband Cliff, and April Howell and husband Eric; 
brother, Jerry Bush Sr.; grandchildren, Mandy Graves, Brent Bush, Aimee 
Melancon, Andre Melancon, Lindsey Bush, Jeremy Craft, Chris Craft, Emily Bush, 
Bryan Bush and Sarah Bush; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bush.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Alice Bush; brother, 
Herbert Bush Jr.; and son-in-law, George Melancon Jr.

He was born on May 15, 1926, in Lafayette to Herbert and Alice Bush. He and his 
wife, Rayetta, had just moved to North Richland Hills, Tx., from Thibodaux, 
where they had lived for 53 years. Bill proudly signed up as an early volunteer 
to serve his country during World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was 
assigned to the U.S.S. Silver Bell as a signalman second class on tour in the 
Philippines and Western Pacific.

After completing his service, he returned to Lafayette and married Rayetta 
Romaine. He and Rayette celebrated their 61st anniversary on January 4. A fourth 
generation railroad man, Bill started his career with Southern Pacific in 1943 
as a blue print boy. Through dedication and hard work, he retired 33 years later 
in 1978 as assistant division engineer -track. He started a second career with a 
newly formed railroad construction company, Trac-Work Inc. He retired for good 
in 1989 as chairman of the board-emeritus.

A devout Catholic, he devoted much of his time, energy, and resources to St. 
Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux. He served on many committees and was 
chairman of the parish fair on several occasions. He was also instrumental in 
developing the "Renew" Stewardship Program for the church. Bill was proud of his 
south Louisiana heritage. He was a member of the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire 
Department, Protector No. 2. He was chairman of the annual Fireman's Fair on 
several occasions as well. On December 16, 2003, he was bestowed the honor of 
Mayor for the Day by the Thibodaux City Council.

For Bill, God, family and community were important parts of his life.

His wife, children, grandchildren, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, and just 
recently a great-grandchild, were great sources of joy for him. He spent 
countless hours at school plays, dance recitals, football, baseball, soccer and 
volleyball games, graduations, weddings, baptisms and reunions. His enthusiasm 
and participation were special to all who knew him as well. He was much loved 
and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Doris LeBlanc Martinez.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also a chemical 
operator for 34 years and an Assumption Parish Police employee. He was an usher 
at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, 
grandfather and friend and enjoyed doing things for others

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, January 30, and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. 
Saturday, January 31, at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville. Mass will be at 
11 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Paincourtville, with 
interment at the church mausoleum.
