Clara was born Sept. 12, 1919 in the St. Charles Community. She graduated from St. Charles High School where she excelled in basketball and academic achievement. She married Malvin Pitre Sr. Oct. 16, 1938 just prior to World War II. They were young entrepreneurs, always being self-employed. Clara drove a large ice truck and kept the ice route going while Malvin was away in the Army serving his country. Later when "Ice Boxes" were replaced by refrigerators, they teamed up to run several successful milk distribution routes for Acadia Dairy. Clara kept the books while Malvin, Roger and Abel made the deliveries. Malvin and Clara enjoyed hard work and taught many others the "virtues of work" by employing several young men during the operation of their ice and milk business. Clara loved sewing, cooking and visiting with family. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. A special thanks to caregiver Cynthia Johnson for years of loving care. Kenneth was born in Wolf Point on Dec. 1, 1918. He was raised and worked on a ranch. In his early teens, he hobo-ed all over the country by way of the railroads. He returned home and married Martha Meyers. He and Martha settled in northern California with their daughters Sharon and Betsy. At the beginning of World War II, he joined the Merchant Marines and served in the south China seas with pride and dignity on a Liberty ship. After the war, he joined the Carpenter's Union in the late 40's and remained a member until his death. After Martha passed away, he married Mary Davis in 1972. They lived in a home he built in Oroville, Calif., for 30 years. His passion was building and re-building antique gas engines. In 2002, he and Mary moved to Thibodaux for their later years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift of gab. He had a good, long life and died a gentleman's death. He will be greatly missed. She talked and reminisced about her days at St. Vincent Academy Shreveport and LSU. Debbo made sure she kept up with the Saints seeing that she was a fan. He was also a founding member of the Lockport Carnival Club. He also belonged to Woodmen of the World, Knights of Columbus and AARP. He loved people and enjoyed helping them out and seeing them laugh. He was a proud and hard working man and a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years. He enjoyed cutting fresh flowers every day for his wife. He enjoyed casino trips with the Lockport Senior Citizen Center, football games, his neighbors, walking, politics and his tools. He faithfully attended church every Sunday. He supported numerous charities. Above all, Mr. Zip was a devoted caregiver and loved his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. She received her primary education in the Terrebonne Parish school system and obtained her teaching degree at Teacher's College in Natchitoches. She then returned to Houma to teach. In 1936 she married Dr. S. Ernest Ellender Sr., co- founder of Ellender Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of the Terrebonne Parish Medical Society Auxiliary, serving twice as president and in numerous other offices of the local organization as well as positions at the district and state level. Mrs. Ellender was a lifetime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was the recipient of two papal awards - the "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" medal, bestowed upon her by Pope Paul VI, and the title, "Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great", conferred upon her by Pope John Paul II. She was devoted to her family and her community. In 1982 she was the first recipient of the Tri-Parish Volunteer Activists Award, and in 1990 was honored by Catholic Social Services for her work with the board since its formation. Terrebonne General Medical Center named her a Grand Dame de la Terrebonne. In 1998 she was awarded the Houma Courier's Most Useful Citizen Award. She was a member of the Terrebonne Literary Club, the Terrebonne Garden Club, the Houma Community Concert Association, and served on the boards of Terrebonne Arts, Inc., and the Terrebonne Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Naomi (Eula) Daigs Robbins; one son, Joe Robbins Jr.; four daughters, Evelyn Robbins-Singleton and husband Larry, Carolyn Robbins-Jones and husband Calvin, Cathy Robbins and Sandra Robbins-Cambell; one sister, Hazel Robbins-Theriot; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Robbins and Martha Jackson Robbins; one son, Silas Anthony Robbins; one brother, Eddie Celestine; and two sisters, Nell Robbins Crawford and Georgia Robbins Smith. He was Baptist and a deacon at Christ Missionary Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War I and II. David loved wearing his hats and cowboy boots so much that he became a collector of both and you could hardly ever get him out of his jeans. David was the type of person that never met a stranger wherever he went, even if he was out of town at the time. But most of all what his family will remember about him was how supportive and loving of a father and devoted husband he was. David enjoyed and loved his five daughters very much and enjoyed sharing his life with his wife.
